A Minnesota traffic stop turned deadly Wednesday evening as a police officer opened fire on a black driver.
The victim, 32-year-old Philando Castile, died at a Minneapolis hospital, a family member told The Washington Post. Castiles mother, Valerie Castile, told CBS Minnesota that her son had died at Hennepin County Medical Center.
The St. Anthony Police Department confirmed the drivers death during a brief Thursday morning press conference but did not identify the officer involved in the shooting or the officers race.
The bloody aftermath of the confrontation was broadcast live on Facebook by a female passenger in the car.
He killed my boyfriend, said the woman, whose Facebook page named her as Lavish Reynolds, as blood soaked through Castiles shirt.
In the video, Reynolds says Castile was legally licensed to carry a firearm and was reaching for his identification when the officer opened fire.
He let the officer know that he had a firearm and he was reaching for his wallet and the officer just shot him in his arm, she says.

Not to mention things like asset forfeiture...
Leftist politics and legal vultures have transformed the job into tax collection, asset seizure, and mountainous paperwork duties. Much like healthcare where you watch nurses in emergency rooms spending 75% of their time in front of computers rather than working with actual patients.
This is a tragedy, but something is missing from these articles.
Why did the cop have his gun drawn in the first place? I’ve been stopped over a dozen times in my lifetime. I’ve never had a cop draw on me, even though I’m a lot larger than most cops.
What was the passenger doing that made the cop shoot? Once the cop draws his firearm it’s important to keep an eye on him and follow his instructions. If the cop is pulling a long shift and has had a lot of coffee, he may not be at his best.
Now that the Feds are involved we may not hear what really happened.
Don’t know about other states, but in TN they are all 3 in the same computer. They even use the same photo as your DL photo. They will ask if you have your weapon on you when they pull you over.
And yes, one of the first things the range teaches you is to put your hands on the steering wheel where they can see them. Do noting unless you tell them what you are going to do such as reach for a wallet or get in your purse for your wallet. My purse has a carry pocket, but I prefer it on my hip. To many snatch and grabs happen. New thing is snatching women from parking lots to rape.
One of the ladies was an off duty LEO, she managed to jump out of a moving car and save herself. And no she didn’t have her weapon on her which is dumb. She know Memphis is the crime capitol of TN.
n Canada last year we had 25 fatal police shootings. In the U.S. there were about 1200.
Where in the world are you getting that there were 1200 fatal police shootings in 2015?
According to numerous sources I Googled, 42 officers were fatally shot last year, down from 49 in 2014.
More officers (52) died in traffic accidents than were shot.
Um, I was talking about police shooting civilians, not the other way around.
Best info I have is Perps 53 - Cops 990 for 2015 in USA.
According to this it was 1142.
It is very difficult for people to step aside from themselves and realize that a cop does not know if you are Mother Theresea or Al Capone.
Even if the cop runs your plate before approaching and you come up clean, he does not know that you are that person or you just went mad.
You must follow instructions and don’t make a move without direction or permission.
It literally will get you killed.
The woman’s lack of compassion for the dying was remarkable. She went into this detached infomercial while the guy was dying.
Have you watched the video and heard the cop screaming, moaning, and dropping F-bombs? He knows he did the wrong thing.
She on the other hand is calm and corrects the officer when she said the cop asked him for his ID and he screams back that he told him to keep his hands on up, and she says calmly , no you asked for his ID.
Unless she is his baby momma she won’t get any big money from this. She might have a claim for emotional damages but won’t be able to touch his money. He has a 15yr old son by a different woman who will get all of that.
When dealing with cops, you’re far more likely to get Al Capone...
The best (highest) estimate for LEO’s active in the US is around 900,000. This apparently includes the dogs, but for the purposes of comparison it will have to do.
That leaves around 319,100.000 of us “civilians” who aren’t working in law enforcement.
(about a 354 to 1 ratio.)
in 2015 there were 41 reported police fatalities due to gunshot wounds in the US. (two of these were reported as accidental, 4 were dogs.)
At the same time, LEOs shot and killed 1142 perps, civilians, whatever your preferred terminology. None of these were dogs.
(about a 29 to 1 ratio)
In other words, any given member of the population is about 10,365 times more likely to get shot by a cop than a cop is by any given member of the population...
I don’t care what happened. It’s a matter to be sorted out through the law. If the officer did wrong, he will be dealt with.
NONE OF THIS IS AN EXCUSE TO RIOT AND LOOT OTHER PEOPLE’S PROPERTY THAT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE INCIDENT ITSELF.
Sounds like you are trying to make excuses to allow the looters “freedom to destroy.”
You can KMA! You’re the one jumping to conclusions.
The trajedy is the death. The poor guy is dying and no words of comfort.
At any rate she’ll have a career with the blm crowd like travon martin and michael brown parents along with the trademarked t shirt market. All quite lucrative.
15 minutes of fame
He was the manager of a Montessori school cafeteria.
Every American should read this. When you see these stories about trigger happy cops and how grand juries always let them skate, “thank” this guy. IMHO, he has the blood of hundreds on his hands:
Just like the fake travon martin and michael brown narratives this one will be used to enrage and divide an easily led population for nefarious purposes.
I have no idea what happened here and have found that early reports are generally wrong.
