Joni Ernst all but removed herself from Donald Trumps vice presidential search, telling POLITICO in an interview that she wants to help Trump become president but that shes focused on Iowa and the Senate, where the freshman senator said she's just getting started.
The GOP senator met with Trump on Monday and received effusive praise afterward, with Trump predicting he will see her again. But it likely wont be as his running mate.
I made that very clear to him that Im focused on Iowa. I feel that I have a lot more to do in the United States Senate. And Iowa is where my heart is, Ernst said Wednesday. Im just getting started here. I have a great partner with Chuck Grassley, weve been able to accomplish a lot. And I think that President Trump will need some great assistance in the United States Senate and I can provide that.

I think Sessions has been the dog that’s not barking this week.
Ditto.
What a disappointment.
hate to see newt there...
love to see amends with cruz...
stick it to the dems all around...
gingrich is a compromiser... trump needs to clean house, and the senate, and the bureaucracies.
Recall when Santorum sold out to Specter over Toomey?
DC's closets are jam-packed. If I'm Trump I'd seriously consider a competent but savvy Outsider who know how the system works to complete the Trump Outside vs. Hillary Insider Exacta.

Please not Newt. I really hope he considers Jim Jordan from Ohio.
The VP is the presient of the senate.
No better place for Newt than that.
He can keep an eye on both places.
A good choice for her, for her state and for the country.
Freshmen Senators are NOT equipped to step into the shoes of the POTUS, for a wide variety of reasons (not the least of which is no executive experience of consequence, unless they had it beforehand) - and we have plentiful evidence these last 7 1/2 years of that fact. Let her learn more, let her perhaps run a department or become a governor. Then she’ll be more prepared.
Oh yes, of course. I recall Scott and one of his daughters offering to play basketball with Obama. He was first ignored, then, of course turned down by Obama. Far be it they allow a white male republican to beat Obama on the basketball court. He might have to turn in his “Brotha” Card for good this time.
This is laughable on our part. Have we not learned anything from observing Donald Trump this entire primary cycle? We’re expecting him to do something conventional in what has been an unconventional campaign. He already has his VP picked, vetted and ready for Cleveland. All these other people such as Newt, Senators Ernst and Corker, and Governor Pence are just acting out their roles in Trump’s well choreographed dog and pony show for media consumption.
DJT said on Fox Business today that 2 generals are also being vetted for VP. He did not mention any names though.
OK, I would will give you that. But no Senators should be in the running because Trump will need to retain the senate if elected.
Newt is NOT a compromiser. He was forced out of the speakership because they did not like him. He would not compromise with any of the democrats on very important issues, so they picked a scam to get him out. Ask yourself this. Who was speaker of the house who got the last balanced budget through? What happened to spending AFTER they railroaded him out?
Trump should name General Petreus and then state that he did less than Hillary did.
Or at the convention he might parade the best looking and smartest Congresswoman in the world out on the stage as his running mate. Conservative to the bone. Representative Marsha Blackburn from the great state of Tennessee. How long would it take the democrats to “Palin” her, although she just turned 64 years old.
Tim Tebow is not ready for office yet, not in his head. He still holds out hope of getting on some big team and in the position he wants. This inspite of closing in on 30. He is now 28. Until Tim is able to let that go and make peace with his present opportunities (sportscasting, endorsments, etc.)’he won’t be focused on politics to the point of winning.
Some one needs to tell the part time senators Ted Cruz and Rubio they are NOT presidential material, let along 'vice president'... There would be a revolt in the Senate if either were 'president' of the Senate... IF there is nothing else to be learned from be-right back Obama, a junior senator, even graduating from Harvard is NOT fit to be president.
See my post 29. I understand that the VP is Senate Prez. But my HOPE would be that Noot could still wield a great deal of influence in the House. I’m sure he knows almost all of the memebers, and for sure knows a bunch of the staffers.
Perhaps, and I’m just blue-skying here, Trump thinks that with Noot as a major player, he could undercut Ryan. At least enough to force him to shut his mouth.
She’s one of my top three guesses...
I’ve been saying Scott Brown for quite some time but no one seems to be picking up on it. Glad you are! I think he would be the right choice for a lot of reasons. Pence might be okay but just don’t see it. Newt is not it, either.
