Joni Ernst all but removed herself from Donald Trumps vice presidential search, telling POLITICO in an interview that she wants to help Trump become president but that shes focused on Iowa and the Senate, where the freshman senator said she's just getting started.
The GOP senator met with Trump on Monday and received effusive praise afterward, with Trump predicting he will see her again. But it likely wont be as his running mate.
I made that very clear to him that Im focused on Iowa. I feel that I have a lot more to do in the United States Senate. And Iowa is where my heart is, Ernst said Wednesday. Im just getting started here. I have a great partner with Chuck Grassley, weve been able to accomplish a lot. And I think that President Trump will need some great assistance in the United States Senate and I can provide that.

Has sessions been ruled out?
Joni Ernst does not strike me as someone who is okay with playing second banana to anyone. I think Ernst is a natural leader and feels best when she is managing what’s important.
A VP has to in a large degree leave their ego at the Oval Office door. There is only space for one president in that office at a time.
Newt is also a strong personality, but he had already had a bright and storied career, so he would be secure taking it down a notch here and there to letting The Donald lead the way in most issues.
The possibilities I see are
Gingrich
Brown
Christie
and Flynn.
Pence is a fine gentleman, but may be too mild mannered to withstand the tidal waves of verbal abuse coming his way from libs and #NeverTrumps. Those waves, they will be coming for the rest of the summer and well into late October.
So that leaves, literally, only Christie.
Or else someone else not on any published list.
(Personally I think Christie would be a great choice, even though he is far less conservative than me, and far less conservative than most here....but there is no substitute for winning...and I think Christie helps in that regard..but I could be entirely wrong!)
“Hed make a much better chief of staff.”
Newt was made for Chief of Staff in a Trump administration. We need a VP that could have a shot at POTUS after 8 years of Trump. Difficult? yes. Impossible? Hell no.
The only problem with Newt as VP is that he’d more than likely not have the fire to run for POTUS in 2024.
Brown?
I understand that, but my hope is that with his connections on the house side, he would be able to cut Ryan up some. Hopefully enough to put him out of business.
I don’t know who Noot is, but if Gingrich becomes VP, he will be Presient of the Senate.
right
No President of the Senate, not House Speaker
Everyone knows he’s picking Tim Tebow...
Santorum would be better than Newtie.
Scott Brown.
YES! Draft LtCol. West. WHY is his name not at the top of the list! He has it ALL!
NO! The Veep is president of the Senate....
I lost all respect when Pence caved and folded like a paper bag when it came to defending Indiana’s religious rights act.
I”m still betting on Sessions.
