Hillary dodged criminal charges for one simple reason
Fox News ^ | July 5, 2016 | John R Lott Jr

Hillary Clinton likely dodged criminal charges Tuesday for a simple reason: the bar for bringing criminal charges against a politician, particularly a high public official, is so much higher than they are for anyone else. Prosecutions against such high public officials only go forward when there is “definitive” evidence. Evidence that prosecutors know will lead to a certain conviction.

Why do I say that? Because earlier in my career I was chief economist at the United States Sentencing Commission. I worked frequently with prosecutors. The reputational loss public officials face from criminal charges can be so great that prosecutors feel that they need to be sure of a conviction before going forward. For someone running for president, such as Hillary, that loss of reputation would be tremendous. -- It isn’t as if she will be able to pick right back up where she is now in the 2020 presidential race.

So much of debate during this election has been over a different standard applying to the Clintons. FBI Director James Comey’s decision Tuesday didn’t treat Hillary differently from other high public officials, but he clearly treated her differently from other Americans.

But politicians aren’t unique. CEOs of major companies or public figures in other areas also face loss of careers simply by being charged. Possibly, prosecutors are simply more sensitive to politicians because they work for them. Politicians also have a lot of political connections. . . .

Didn’t seem to be too high for Richard Nixon. But then Democrats are always much more ready to criminalize their political opponents than the far more passive Republicans, or in fact, most other political colorations of any stripe, except the strictly Socialist variety.

Criminalization of political rivals is a tactic straight out of Saul Alinsky.

The rules of engagement have been set. Should Herself be somehow elevated to the Oval Office, the outright persecution of just about everybody to the right of Herself will begin in earnest and proceed unabated until we have achieved the American Reich.

The Third Reich was an experiment in socialist domination, using the forms and trappings of a supposedly industrialized society, but with the economy turned into a control-and-command model.

the bar for bringing criminal charges against a politician Democrat, particularly a high public official Democrat, is so much higher than they are for anyone else.

Nonsense.

The bar wasn't high enough to protect Caspar Weinberger from indictment for Iran-Contra just four days before Bill Clinton's election, but it was too high to indict Eric Holder for running guns to Mexican drug cartels.

Just admit that Democrats get a free pass, except when a lower level Blago takes the rap for a higher level Obama.

"There is definitive evidence and it is covered up."

I disagree. They didn't cover up any evidence as far as I can tell.

They just declined to prosecute a Felony...that they exposed.

In your face.

The law still applies to little people. Only the elites are exempt.

The law applies equally to all citizens, or it does not apply at all.

That in itself is true from the email offense perspective. It is the content of what is in them where the real damning evidence is which is being covered up by this action.

“A can of worms would be opened...”

More like a colony of cockroaches, scurrying madly when the lights come on.

And, that is PRECISELY what we need right now. We need a good housecleaning. Time to water Jefferson’s Tree of Liberty, perhaps.

There needs to be serious progress to a Convention of States, or even a split of the nation into the ‘utopia’ the progressives want, and the real freedom that comes with much less government, much more personal freedom, and the obligate to personal responsibility needed to secure that freedom for the future.
