SARASOTA, Fla. (AP) Authorities say a 14-year-old boy was accidentally shot and killed by his father at a Florida gun range.
William Brumby was firing his weapon at the High Noon Gun Range in Sarasota on Sunday when a spent shell casing deflected off a nearby wall and landed inside the back of his shirt

OPPS!
Shit happens. Worst of outcomes in a shockingly bad accident.
Therefore,
let’s take away all guns.
We need common sense confication of all guns!
“He’ll be in a mental anguish “jail” for the rest of his life.”
Justice is not about feelings. He killed someone through gross negligence. It does not matter if you kill a stranger or your son. Jail the sob.
Yep and sometimes a tire will blow out causing a car to swerve and hit another, but the driver is not charged for bad driving habits.
Again Common Sense, Something missing in this world must rule. If this was an Accident the mental torture of the father will outweigh anything man(laws) can do to him.
Pray for His Soul and the Soul of the Lost Child.
You’d have to burn me half to death before I pulled my gun muzzle from down range. Comes from being kicked in the ass every time I did something wrong on the range as a kid. It hurt.
The law may be in error and if the law is an error a person with standing or who has otherwise been negativity impacted by such a law can go to trial and if need be, appeal to a higher court.
Ooopsy-daisy! [female version]
Oh one other item, you said “Many, many shooters have had hot brass go unexpected places. But we dont forget gun safty going after it.”
Why did you not say All?
“The law may be in error and if the law is an error a person with standing or who has otherwise been negativity impacted by such a law can go to trial and if need be, appeal to a higher court.”
Or the Jury Nullify! Which is why we have Trial by Jury, to ensure the people can use Common Sense and negate the “Law” when the “Law” is in Error.
God Bless
Always keep the gun pointed at the target - or at least down range.
“Always keep the gun pointed at the target...”
There is the possibility that the gun was pointed at his target.
If the blow tire was because the driver was driving on bologna skins it wasn’t an accident.
Same thing it the driver was driving on bologna skins and hydroplaned into another car on a rainy day.
Took a hot casing down the back of the T-shirt at an Air Force competition. I thought the Range Master was going to die laughing watching my gyrations. The one thing that impressed him was the fact the barrel of my M-9 never went in any direction other that right down range.
I feel for the Father, but he made a very bad decision when he did not lay the firearm on the ground or bench in a safe condition before trying to dig for the empty casing.
All means all - I don’t think that’s a statement anyone could make.
Hey, go chew your bone somewhere else.
Well, it’s obvious you need to purchase a tactical bra!
I have new Michelin R/S LTXs on all four of my SUVs.
Haven’t shot one of my sons.
I have always stood to the right of other shooters who are using semi automatics so that their spent cartridges shower down on me when I am firing on the range. This made sure I never forgot how to properly react to hot brass and not let it interfere with putting my own rounds on target while being distracted.
The way the incident is written, something is not right.
That’s a good point. My gunny shooting partner had.an American Eagle in .50 with a red dot scope that guaranteed the casing would rain down vertically upon you. Most bounced off my backwards raid hat. One went down my t-shirt. Once.
Once.
