Gov. Jerry Brown signs bulk of sweeping gun-control package into law, vetoes five bills

Gov. Jerry Brown on Friday signed six gun-control bills into law, including a requirement that ammunition purchasers undergo background checks. The governor vetoed five other measures.

“My goal in signing these bills is to enhance public safety by tightening our existing laws in a responsible and focused manner, while protecting the rights of law-abiding gun owners,” Brown wrote in a message.

Brown approved bills that would ban the sale of semiautomatic rifles equipped with bullet buttons allowing the ammunition magazines to be easily detached and replaced.

The National Rifle Assn. Institute for Legislative Action accused the governor of exploiting the terrorist attacks for political gain.

“Gov. Jerry Brown today signed a Draconian gun control package that turns California’s law-abiding gun owners into second-class citizens,” said Amy Hunter, California spokesperson for the group. “ The governor and legislature exploited a terrorist attack to push these measures through even though the state’s already restrictive laws did nothing to stop the attack in San Bernadino.”

Bills the governor signed will:

— Require an ID and background check to purchase ammunition and create a new state database of ammunition owners

— Ban possession of ammunition magazines that hold more than 10 bullets.

— Restrict the loaning of guns without background checks to close family members.

Brown acted on the gun bills just before he left for a European vacation expected to last a few weeks.

I will now purchase my ammunition in Nevada, Oregon, or Arizona.

Same here because when the fascists say they're creating an ammo database it can only mean one thing, confiscation.

I think we should hire a few of these Allah Akbar types and point em in the right direction. Jerry has to be a hundred, when is he going to have the good grace to die?

Better yet let’s buy a few hundred Korans stuff with bacon and pour pigfat on em go to the nearest mosque and make a trail back to the state house. Might work.

I am a fairly outspoken user on some forums of California gunners. It’s sad to see all that they can do is stomp their feet over this, roll over and play dead.

It is ironic that this tyrannical move has happened three days before the US declared it’s independence 240 years ago.

And yet, NOT ONE EFFING PERSON REALIZES IT IN THIS STATE!!!

“”tightening our existing laws in a responsible and focused manner””

Well, golly Jer - you didn’t even use the ever popular dem terminology of “sensible gun legislation.” But I guess he figures he didn’t touch the guns with this signing - just the ammo! Brilliant. What a piece of work he is!

We left CA 10 years ago and Sacramento and the gun laws was ONE of the reasons...Left a lot of good friends who are gun owners behind. If you can - head for less restrictive states. Don’t know if I will tell my husband this or not..he really doesn’t need to get upset over something else he has no control over.

What happened to the guy in Sacramento who used to fight for gun owners? Bill Richardson - was that his name? Goes back a lot of years.

How many people are thinking what I’m thinking? And it’s not “HOPE YOU ENJOY YOUR VACATION, JERRY.”

Does the M1A fall under their detachable magazine/button definition?

Because, to my way of thinking it would seem that in their obtuse use of obfuscated language and definitions it does

California needs a Trump-like governor more than the US needs Trump.

>Notice that on our side, nobody appeals?

>If this were against the Left, there would already be appeals filed.

We know the courts are rigged against us. Tends to make us passive.

“We left CA 10 years ago...”

We did, too. Born and raised Californian, and spent nearly half a century there.

In early 2005, I finally read the handwriting on the wall. If it had only been me and the wife, I probably would have stuck it out, but we had four little kids. I just didn’t think I had the right to make that decision for them, so we went to Texas.

It was a wiser choice than I knew at the time.

Where is the NRA?!?!?!?! We need someone to stop this! Lawsuits...anything!

I think that the only actually effective lawsuit would be actually suing to apply all these rules to law enforcement. No replaceable magazines in semi (or fully) automatic rifles, no magazines with more than 10 rounds, etc, etc, etc. Use equal protection as the argument: if this legislation is for our protection, then it should apply equally to all.

If this was another district, I could see challenging the rules, but it'll just get affirmed by the 9th here.

This one seems to work.....but we were probably better off not being able to read the whole thing. What a bunch of BS.
Jerry Brown MORE OPEN TO EFFORTS TO CONTROL FIREARMS - are we supposed to laugh or cry over that nonsense?

“”At a time when mass shootings are occurring with escalating frequency, it appears Brown’s pragmatic side and his Jesuit training has made him more open to efforts to control firearms, according to Jaime Regalado, a professor emeritus of political science at Cal State L.A.

The National Rifle Assn. Institute for Legislative Action accused the governor of exploiting the terrorist attacks for political gain.””
