Ontario is introducing gender-neutral driver's licences and health cards.
Beginning in early 2017, drivers will be able to select X, instead of an M for male or F for female for their licences.
And this month, the province started issuing health cards that no longer display information about a person's sex on the front of the card.
People who want a new health card without the sex identifier before their regular renewal date can obtain one immediately through ServiceOntario at no cost.
The Liberal government says it is making these changes "to ensure the fair, ethical and equitable treatment of people with trans and non-binary gender identity."
Ontario will also launch public consultations this summer to develop policies on how the government collects, uses and displays sex and gender information on government forms and products.
"Many Ontarians do not identify as female or male," said Government and Consumer Services Minister Marie-France Lalonde.
"As society's understanding of gender evolves, government must adapt. Part of that is being more thoughtful about how and when we collect gender or sex information, and how we use it."

I think I understand ‘trans’, but what is a ‘non-binary gender identity’? These freaks re-define the word RIDICULOUS every single day...
How about only having 2 choices, XX or XY.
So the X will indicate “I don’t know what the Hell I am”?
How soon before they face endless whining about “X” being discriminatory or abusive for some as yet unknown reason??
They will need many more options to properly represent the glories of varied “gender identity”
pap smears on X males should be interesting...
oh you are so behind the times — gender identity is fluid, varied, and self-created!

California, Oregon and Connecticut will be sure to follow suit in this anti-nature insanity.
non-binary?
Everyone should request a new license and check the X. If the government gives the choice of answering “Other” or “N/A”, we should all take that choice.
and Vermont
Surely, if this is all an "evolving" matter, we should be able to pick any alphabet letter we want...and from any language...
Or, even our own made-up language.
How uninclusive can Canadians be?
Yep, we know what a single “X” means? Why bother to try and hide it?

My husband works for a small healthcare company and this is a concern. If someone comes in for, let’s say, allergy problems and is dressed like a man but doesn’t disclose they were born as a female, then the doctor can’t ask questions such as “When was your last pap smear?” The patient may develop cervical or breast cancer because their doctor wasn’t aware of their true gender.
I know medical protocols can differ between injuries to a man and a woman, I wonder how they will justify maintaining protocols for victims of accidents who have crushed balls but who identify as a woman....
