On this weekend’s broadcast of “Fox News Sunday,” Washington Post columnist George Will explained why he left the Republican Party over presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.
Will said, “I left it for the same reason I joined it in 1964 when I voted for Barry Goldwater, because I was a conservative. I leave for the same reason, I’m a conservative. To give you a time line, shortly after Trump became the presumptive nominee he had a summit meeting with Paul Ryan where they stressed their vast shared ground, which is more important than their differences. I thought that was puzzling because Paul Ryan still didn’t endorse him. After Trump went after the Mexican judge, then Paul Ryan endorsed him. I decided that, in fact, this is not my party anymore. I changed my registration to unaffiliated 23 days ago. I hardly made an announcement. I mentioned this in a meeting with the Federalist Society. The long and the short of it is, as Ronald Reagan said when he changed his registration, I did not leave the Democratic Party, the Democratic Party left me.”
Responding to Trump’s tweet about his party departure Will added, “He has an advantage on me. He can say everything he knows about any subject in 140 characters and I can’t.”
George Will, one of the most overrated political pundits (who lost his way long ago), has left the Republican Party. He's made many bad calls

LOL!
He didn;t finish well. Every senior editor would like to thnk they went out on a courageous note. He popped a foul behind 3rd base and will be forgotten real soon.
Yup! LOL!
He never said he was voting Hillary. In fact, tonight George sounded like a real conservative which he has not for some time.
George Will jumped the shark.
He can go back to writing about baseball.
No one needs to hear his erroneous pontifications.
We’re living in an alternate universe. When did we pass through that wormhole? Or have the Repubs been completely infiltrated?
“I leave for the same reason, Im a conservative.”
George, you’re a loser.
He is a globalist....always has been....
And his slam on Trump is actually a compliment when you think about it. Trump can make his point on any topic in 140 characters. Quit a skill, really.
Will, like a lot of professional conservatives....is owned by the cheap labor express. There’s no mystery to who or what this man is.
well george, living a lie is very hard. just admit you are a rino/uniparty hack like everyone knows tom cruise and john travolta are gay. you will feel so much better, george.
He’s come out as an ATHEIST!!! THAT MAKES HIM A DEMOCRAT!!! I guess his lovely wife will work for Hillary now!!!
Actually, he bunted foul w/ two strikes causing strike three. He’s now in that long walk back to the dugout...right, left, right, left, right left, step, step, step...sit down!
I didn’t care about George Will before and I care about him a lot less now.
LOL is this guy for real..he’s a “Conservative” yet he is going to vote for someone who is in favor of aborting babies at NINE MONTHS..I am seeing these so-called Republicans for what they are, they have NO backbone, no morals..if they did they wouldn’t be electing a woman who wants to take away their 2nd Amendment rights
Leaving the party is one thing.
Voting for the opposition is not a natural consequence.
He didn’t say he was voting for Hillary.
A lot of conservatives are leaving the Republican party and voting for Trump, no contradiction.
Anyone who supports Hillary Clinton is ipso facto an imbecile.
He came up with the bases loaded and the game on the line. Not only did he strike out but he whiffed so badly that everyone is laughing..... not even close, Georgie, not even close.
