Presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump appeared to soften his tone on immigration Saturday, saying he wouldn't issue mass deportations if president.
"President Obama has mass deported vast numbers of people the most ever, and it's never reported. I think people are going to find that I have not only the best policies, but I will have the biggest heart of anybody," Trump said in an interview with Bloomberg Politics Saturday.
Pressed on whether he would issue mass deportations as he has called for in the past, Trump said: "No, I would not call it mass deportations."
"We are going to get rid of a lot of bad dudes who are here. That I can tell you," Trump said.
Throughout his campaign, Trump has promised to build a wall between the U.S. and Mexican border and deport all 11 million people living in the country illegally.
In November, shortly after he launched his presidential campaign, Trump said he would build a "deportation force" to ship those in the country illegally back to their home countries.
"We're going to do it in a very humane fashion. Believe me. I have a bigger heart than you do. We're going to do it in a very human fashion," he said.

My simple statement that started this was that Trump’s ‘self deportation’ plan sounds like what Romney’s ‘self deportation’ plan was. You certainly haven’t refuted that with all your statements about other things.
Yes indeed I think Trump supporters on the cusp, including many who were willing to speak out in favor of him care! I hear doubts from former enthusiastic supporters. Even those who still support Trump lament that he doesn’t go after the La Raza militancy and Judge’s apparent complicity.
Think Trump tanked around June 12. When was Curiel gaffe?
Interesting article. Thanks for posting.
I haven’t really heard it mentioned. If he brings it up again, then it will come flooding back full bore. The media would love to talk about that as opposed to substantive issues. The time will come in the debates when he’ll have to address, and they need to make sure it is articulated properly.
Just looked it up. Curiel gaffe was an article in Wall Street Journal on June 3.
I have never liked the media term ‘mass deportation’ fits perfectly with his original statement: I would not call it mass deportations.” The title claimed he said there would be no mass deportations, but Trump had only said that he would not call whats in his immigration plan mass deportations. Trump doesnt care to let the media define what to call his policy plans (especially when the presstitutes are hoping to conjure up images of cattle cars full of people heading to Auschwitz).
We probably shouldnt fret too much about the details of how he wants to get them to leave. Even in early November when talking about his deporation force I watched Trump tell an interviewer on TV that once the immigration laws were enforced, many illegals would go home on their own accord (which is what happened under the so-called Operation Wetback after the initial deportations started rolling). What he seems most concerned with (and has seemed so since his 2011 book, Time to Get Tough) is seeking out convicted illegal criminals to deport.
After these two points, there wont even be that many left to deport, so I suspect that for the rest he (like Ted Cruz supported at the time he criticized Trumps deportation force) wants to deport those who come to the attention of the authorities, rather than trying to do mass round-ups. These sort of individual deportations of the remaining illegals when they become known would be less controversial than attempting to do actual mass sweeps and round-ups, because that would simply be (as he tweeted) enforc[ing] the laws of the land as they stand already and thus harder to argue against.
Tanked? Are you out of your mind? You believe the polls? Jeez louise....
CHeck out LS’s comemnts about polls.
I was on Zogby’s email polling list for over one year, maybe two. There was no way polls could be answered honestly; and it got worse and worse as time went on. The polls I was sent - many - were merely funnels designed to get the correct answers for propaganda purposes.
Unless you see ALL the internals, polls mean nothing - squat - they are less than worthless. You need to know number of people, registered voters or not, regular voters or not, what party, where they live, ages, races, and exactly what questions were asked, precisely. Maybe more details, but those are the main ones.
If you don’t see all that information detailed, polls are nothing but garbage. Taken into account also that many people lie or refuse to answer polls.
Look at the Brexit polls, for instance. They got it wrong.
Well said. People need to stop clutching their pearls and gasping in horror at every twist and turn of the MSM, which are done on purpose to sway people who aren’t thinking clearly.
I live in a wide circle of diversity.
Trump better take on Curiel La Raza MEChA Chicanos por la Causa and their militancy.
Most Mexican Americans ignore those groups, but are sensitive about their heritage. Donald gaffed. They won’t forget. Will rankle until they are educated and the MSM won’t let it go.
So tweet your concerns to him or his team. What are you waiting for? No one here can do anything.
I look at polls and read widely and quickly as a lifetime habit.
I told everyone widely Romney was going to lose in 2012. Everybody argued with me as you are.
I believe what I say based on polls, articles, lots of conversations and experience with thousands of people from all walks of life over the years.
The polling average has him down 5-6 points. Even in the more conservative polls like Rasmussen and OAN, he still isn’t winning. The polls absolutely shouldn’t be ignored. Like I said, though, it’s early enough where Trump can fix this. The important thing to do is look at the polls and make necessary changes. We are seeing some now with Manafort taking charge. The biggest problem now is the 41 million in ads Hillary is spending compared to no ads for Trump. Trump has to get ads out because this will be a way to expose Hillary’s corruption to the people by bypassing the media.
Romney was loathed by millions of us. Therefore many conservatives/Rs etc did not vote for him. Trump’s support is massive and he is feared greatly by the MSM and elites of both parties. Romney wasn’t feared at all, and in fact rolled over for 0bola.
Totally different situation.
Agree different.
The people leaving Trump were mushy supporters anyway, but Curiel remark was final straw. Trump needs to get them back with education about the underlying issues with Curiel La Raza.
These voters are busy, family oriented and not real politically inclined. They will not see the devastating downside to voting for Hillary.
A refresher: Trump CNN Interview: Deport illegals, but expedite the return of the good ones for legal status
Yes that is deporting them but NOWHERE has he called for ‘mass deportation’ which in the leftist parlance of all the crazies means lining up buses and having 11 million ( or pick a number) riding buses out of the US within a month of his presidency
No time for quislings.
