When Independent Journal Review asked Donald Hense, Chair and CEO of Friendship Public Charter Schools in D.C., if he felt that Common Cores way of solving math problems is working, he said give it time
:Were no longer saying 2 + 2 = 4; it has taken some time and its going to take some time for teachers to become proficient.et,
Ive met two teachers assistants, who make less than 12K a year, one who had been on the job for 20 years. Through tears, she said, we were there to help these confused students after the lessons, with their homework; Common Core math was impossible for them and for us. I felt so inadequate, I had to leave the kids, this was the last straw.

BS. Another attempt to destroy American education!
(Pretty successful so far, don’t you think?)
Common Core gives aid and comfort to the enemy.
Forget the brainwashing. Go right to the logical way to perform math functions.
So what does 2 + 2 equal?
Inquiring minds want to know.
Not counting notable private-school exceptions, American public school students have been taught erroneous, incomplete, and/or bogus information in Social Studies, History, Science, Language Arts, and even the supposedly-incorruptible Mathematics.
Doom has been hanging over American schools ever since Truth was despised and removed from academic endeavors.
But...you have your football and basketball programs still standing.
2 + 2 = 4 is the easiest and most logical method. Of course, logic, reason, and rationailty are all foreign terms to the Common Core progressives who don’t want the children to engage in that type of thinking. No they want them to follow the procedural method outlined by the gubmint so hey will learn to say “yes, Master” without question.
Correction, basketball is now pronounced bassaball.
"In the distant future, humans live in a computer-aided society and have forgotten the fundamentals of mathematics, including even the rudimentary skill of counting. The Terrestrial Federation is at war with Deneb, and the war is conducted by long-range weapons controlled by computers which are expensive and hard to replace. Myron Aub, a low grade Technician, discovers how to reverse-engineer the principles of pencil-and-paper arithmetic from computersa development which is later dubbed "Graphitics". The discovery is appropriated by the military establishment, who use it to re-invent their understanding of mathematics. They also plan to replace their computer-operated ships with lower cost, more expendable (in their opinion) manned ships to continue the war."
Look,if we don’t continue to dumb down the masses, especially in Mathematics, they might wake up one day and realize we have enslaved them in perpetual debt to pay for our wants. Hell they might even realize that the DEBT can NEVER BE PAID, which means they are by definition “Economic Slaves”. They might revolt if they learned to count
We can’t have that, now can we.
Can somebody solve this for me”
Do they hand out marijuana or a crack pipe with the test?? If you were not completely F*&Ked up on something, it Can Not be Solved.
The problem with the common core approach is that it is busy teach concepts I.e. mathematics instead of teaching arithmetic. Numeration proficiency comes from practice. If any one cares to learn the theory the can take those classes at a higher level
Children of elementary school age don’t and shouldn’t care that 15 can be grouped as 3 sets of 5 or 5 sets of 3. They should know how to do arithmetic. Add subtract multiply and divide correctly and without a calculator.
None of this common core crap is taught at elementary level anywhere else in the world
10 in base 5
We put a man on the moon almost 50 years ago using the ‘old’ math, slide rules, and huge cumbersome computers.
Common Core clearly is not necessary, much less desirable.
The common core method of solving a simple subtraction problem makes no sense. I cannot even grasp the concept behind the method. It adds unnecessary clutter to my brain.
My God, I doubt I would ever make anything above a D if I had to learn that crap.
Oh Lordy. Addition by remainders how special
There is a school in Tahiti called the 2+2=4 school. The man who donated it wanted to be sure the students who went there would at least learn one thing. Big sign over the entrance.

I don’t know if it is a deliberate attempt to destroy education or a much more common “road to hell is paved with good intentions” effort. The fact is (and nobody disputes this) those of us educated in the 50s (and of course taught by teachers educated years earlier) got a better education than those educated today. Math, history, English, and science were all taught using methods that are rejected by more modern “educators”. I taught for more than 30 years and the expectations were always revised downward, never raised. It’s a shame really.
