hmmm.... but the devolution since the 90s has only made the scots want more. Your theory makes sense, but 1. this has already been done and 2. this was done too late — it should have happened in the 50s.
Its not just political and economic power, its the cultural power that goes along with it. You can have a multimillion pound business anywhere in the UK, but if its not in London, it will simply not be taken seriously. Londoners consider anything outside of London as being basically sub par, from organisations to people. The reasoning seems to be that if you were any good, then you'd be in London. But youre not, therefore you are second rate. It's that ungodly condescending attitude that is at the heart of it.
