Too bad Alan Young just died.
I read that long after the show had ended, Mr. Ed would start moving his lips whenever Alan Young came to visit him.
That was a great show, a great era. Mr. Ed was likely conditioned by food treats!
Wow, I had no idea Alan Young was still alive until May.
Nor that he was Canadian.
I never heard of Mavis Staples either.
And my terrible mind immediately flashed “Affirmative Action Award”.
But I’m sure she sings really good. She’s a singer, right?
Hate Taytlor’s politics, but love his music. Going to Carolina is one of my all time faves.
Carolina in my Mind (duh-sorry).
I know a place
Aint nobody cryin
Aint nobody worryin
Aint no smilin faces
Lyin to the races
I remember that song!! Yeah she must sing pretty good. Still don’t know her, though. I know Al Pacino and James Taylor, but they’re both white, which means anything they achieved was done on the suffering backs of disenfranchised black men. You can see Al Pacino going between interviews riding piggyback on a retired NFL linebacker, shouting “Giddyup” ;)
Never heard of Mavis Staples.

Go to jail. Go directly to jail. Do not pass go. Do not collect 200 dollars.
How about the Staples Singers? Ever heard of them?
I saw Mavis twice this year, once with opening act Nick Lowe, and as an opening act for Bob Dylan just last night. She is fantastic.

One of the great performances of all time.
Nope - don't listen to Gospel music. But I gather from the responses that her award is well deserved.
Not entirely Gospel, a good hit of R&B, enough for them to appear in the movie, The Last Waltz, with the Band - they do a studio version of the Weight.
worth seeking out to give a listen.
