Dem: 'The Second Amendment needs some changing'

Rep. Mike Doyle, D-Pa., called for a revision of the Second Amendment during Wednesday's "sit-in" on the House floor, which has shut down the House while Democrats demand a vote on gun control legislation.

"The Second Amendment needs some changing, because Americans don't agree with it and we've had it," Doyle shouted on the House floor. "We're not going to watch any more people in this country get slaughtered and do nothing."

House Democrats are occupying the well of the floor in order to demand a vote on gun control legislation, such as a ban on weapons sales to people on the terror watch list.

They've vowed not to leave until House Republicans grant a vote on that bill, making the "sit-in" a rough approximation of a Senate filibuster. They were joined briefly on the House floor by Sen. Chris Murphy, D-Murphy, who staged a talking filibuster for the same purpose last week.

because Americans don't agree with it

Article 4, section IV of the United States Constitution.

The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, ...

This guarantees every American that the rule of law trumps the rule of the majority.

Your representative owes you, not his industry only, but his judgment; and he betrays instead of serving you if he sacrifices it to your opinion.

The Second Amendment needs some changing, because Americans don't agree with it and we've had it," Doyle shouted on the House floor

OK. Fine.

First of all, it's not treason to amend the Constitution. It's happened before.

Second, it's time we have this out. I'll even draft the amendment, and ask my congressman to introduce it. That's not treason, either, BTW.

An Amendment to the Constitution of the United States

Section 1. The Second Amendment to this Constitution is herewith repealed.

Section 2. After one year from the ratification of this article the manufacture, sale, or transportation of firearms within, the importation thereof into, or the exportation thereof from the United States and all the territory subject to the jurisdiction thereof for purposes of self-defense, hunting, target practice, or membership in a well-regulated militia is hereby prohibited.

Section 3. The Congress and the several States shall have concurrent power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.

Section 4. This article shall be inoperative unless it shall have been ratified as an amendment to the Constitution by the legislatures of the several States, as provided in the Constitution, within seven years from the date of the submission hereof to the States by the Congress.

Section 5. Should this article fail of ratification, no proposed amendment affecting Amendment the Second may be introduced in the Congress, or at a Convention of States, for 100 years from the date of the submission of this article to the several States.

Now, all Doyle needs is 2/3 of each House and 38 states, and it's done.

Easy-peasy.

Hoping some of these jerks are victims of home invasions and get roughed up. Maybe then they will get a clue.

They can’t do jack s*** to the Constitution and they know it.

All they do is make themselves look like real idiots.

Won’t be a new ban, won’t be a national gun registry, and dambetcha there will be no confiscations. If they don’t like it they can move to Australia.

Bunch of losers.

“More traitorous talking points from the House Democrats...”

Exactly. Calling for the illegal dissolution of the 2nd amendment is no different than urging the assassination of a president. They are attempting to overthrow our republic. That’s treason. These rats need to be arrested.

Changing the Constitution is quite Constitutional and cannot be treason.

But any attempt to alter the 2nd Amendment so you or I can't defend ourselves IS Treason.

They ain’t gonna get the votes to pass an amendment modifying it, and even if they could, I don’t think Americans would comply. If Democrats weren’t morons, they might realize this is a bridge too far and focus on other parts of the agenda, but thankfully, it appears they are still morons.

Americans don’t agree with it?

Hard to square that with the number of gun sales. That is, Americans voting with their wallets.

I’m sick of men like Mike Doyle, D-Pa. talking about what ‘Americans’ like or don’t like... He damn sure doesn’t speak for me... or any other conservatives.

People who aren’t fools don’t want the 2nd change... we know it’s the camels nose under a tent... we know restricting guns buys won’t matter ONE WHIT to a killer.

Grow up democrats...

The only change I could be persuaded to endorse would be to remove the part that says “A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state”.

The rest needs to stay... In my opinion, it doesn’t really matter WHY the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

Don’t need to change the second amendment, just get radical SCOTUS picks to give a ruling to take our guns away - a lot easier for the Democrats.

This is good news. D Doyle brought up 2A. Hillary will have to answer as to whether she is in favor of sponsoring a repeal of 2A and also of the House D strategy of civil disobedience on the House floor against the US Constitution.

I wonder if 2A is becoming the 2016 version of the Compromise of 1850...

Cong. Doyle: There is a procedure long in place to change the Constitution. The Framers were very wise men. Get an amendment going if you are so convinced that’s what the people want.
