But in the wake of Omar Mateen's bloody rampage in Orlando, gun control advocates think that overcoming the passionate opposition of firearms owners and imposing a ban on a difficult to define class of "assault weapons" is a swell idea whose time has come. This prohibition will somehow be different.

I assume, that before the police begin these raids, The gun controllers and the police are going to move themselves and their families into a green zone. It's a small price to pay for such an important and sacred outcome.
1 trillion rounds is 10,000 for each of 100 million gun owners. That kind of hoarding doesn’t exist. Oh, you or I may know half a dozen people that have 10,000 or even 50,000. Heck, I know a guy who has about 100,000 - but he is probably 1 in a million. Average per gun owner is probably about 1,000, maybe a bit less...but that is still a whole LOT of ammo.
BTW, I think that this does give the feds a lot of pause. They know that they can only raid a certain number of people per night, and that once raids start they will get more and more resistance - not just at the raid sites, but at their offices, at unrelated fed/state/local offices and facilities, and at the homes of various government and media officials and personalities. OTOH, if they do one raid a month nationwide, then no one will be too concerned or take them seriously. They have to walk a tightrope - and I simply don’t care that a bunch of them will lose sleep (and maybe more) over this issue.
What happened when a *Homeland Security Emergency* Executive Order was given to place Japs in the USA in prison camps?
Hint: The decision in Korematsu v. United States has been controversial. ... . The Korematsu decision has not been explicitly overturned ....
On February 3, 2014, Justice Antonin Scalia, during a discussion with law students at the University of Hawaii at Manoa William S. Richardson School of Law, said that "the Supreme Court's Korematsu decision upholding the internment of Japanese Americans was wrong, but it could happen again in war time."
“What will gun controllers do when the realize that they really dont control as much as they think they do?”
Buy new underwear.
Understand that you are not typical.
FYI, civilian ammo also comes in 20-round boxes, and a lot of people are cheapskates. I would bet that 50% of AR owners have no more than 200 rounds. Averages are averages, not what you or I or our friends have.
Do you really think there are only 100 million gun owners?
I think it is closer to 200 million.
But you are correct, 1 trillion is reaching, but I do not think by much. And how many of those bullets actually need to reach a target? One in ten, one in a hundred, one in a thousand?
Not good odds for the Feds if they were to actually try anything.
“. Heck, I know a guy who has about 100,000 - but he is probably 1 in a million.”
Not really. 1 in 10,000 maybe. I personally know enough doods with that much ammo in Colorado, alone, to make it 1:10,000.
Good point. But it is still about choices.
I believe the plan would be to make a few high profile examples to keep the remainder in check. High profile would be max force with unhappy ending for targeted gun owners. Press would be enlisted to supply the propaganda (as usual). Show of force in the community with fed supplied APCs would also be part of the dog & pony show. If things got too bad NG would be called up. That said, all sides should understand no plan survives first contact. Hope we dont have to experience confiscation but it seems a segment of our society is hoping so. THe outcome wouldnt be at all good.

Where full auto is useful is hitting running targets crossing your field of fire.Just pick a point in front of your target and fire.
Having said that,my weapon of choice if the SHTF is my M21 clone with Leatherwood scope. For close work my suppressed Mp5A3.
I’m arguing right now with a guy on Facebook re: gun control ...I mentioned Chicago and asked why Obama isn’t saying or doing anything about that city with its strict gun control . His answer just a few minutes ago :
“I’m told weapons can be bought freely in Indiana and shipped over the border. I think the argument is for Federal gun control, background checks, closing gun show and Internet loopholes, registration, ban on high capacity magazines, etc.
I think few responsible gun owners would argue for carte blanche ownership. To keep firearms out of the hands of people who shouldn’t have them ought to have wide public support, surely!”
Ask him why there aren’t Chicago levels of violent crime in Indiana, if it’s so easy to get guns there.
Haha ...just asked him . Awaiting response lol .
His reply :
” for a start, there is third more people living in the Chicago Metropolitan area than the whole state of Indiana.”
Its still faster and more economical to machine most parts out of traditional materials
Hand held full auto is fun but hits are what count . Wanna scare the feces out of a politician like chuck schumer or Harry Reid start designing/building an American version of the panzerfaust. Literally something that will turn the bastards armored limo into a crematorium.
Suppressors on the other hand would be very useful . Just saying don’tcha know.
Exactly politicians may have armored limos we can build some serious ass can openers.
