The Latest: FBI confirms prior contact with body armor shop

The FBI is confirming that agents spoke last month with a Florida gun shop where Orlando shooter Omar Mateen asked to buy body armor and about 1,000 rounds of ammunition.

But the FBI says store employees did not provide any information about him, preventing "any meaningful investigative follow up."

Lotus Gunworks has said it turned Mateen away because it did not carry the style of body armor he wanted and referred him elsewhere.

Store officials told the FBI about the encounter last month when agents followed up on an unrelated investigative matter.

However, the store did not have his name, date of birth, telephone number or other information. The shop notified the FBI after the shooting to say that the unknown man who had visited them resembled the nightclub shooter.

Even with it a name, the store likely had video footage. Did the FBI bother to look at it? After all, they had this guy under surveillance in 2014, allegedly. This begins to look like yet another Fast an Furious screwup.

...

They must have some kind of face recognition software.

Is it also true that the shooter started at 2am and authorities waited until 5am to arrive?

well i hope somebody puts in a freedom or information act request in on these things...

I'm sure the FBI would say that 'documents are not available at this time due to an active investigation' after they started with the stall tactic of 'as all of our teams are working on the crime scene trying to ascertain the motivation of this shooting, we are not available to produce such records.'

The FBI would have got right on it if only the gunshop owner could tell them the Muzzie’s favorite color and favorite dessert.

The "tape" had been overwritten in the interval between the shooter visit, and the mention to the FBI. Or so I've heard. Reliable facts are hard to come by these days.

I get mixed impressions, one being that FBI was called within a short time of the shooter visit, and another that the FBI wasn't called (or didn't visit) until after a separate report was made, about three middle eastern guys visited the shop. Turns out the group of three were military or LEO from a middle eastern country, in the US "on official business," and deemed to be no threat.

What is the significance of them mentioning his desire to purchase bulk ammunition? On a decent range day, it’s hard enough firing more than a hundred or so rounds while you’re there, anyway. I usually have 500-1,000 rounds in my vast right-wing conspiracy arsenal at any time.

-- I am sure he called the FBI after the attack just to let them know the killer was in their shop, talking to someone on a phone in Arabic, several weeks before the attack. --

What I gather from the snippets of interview that the press deigns to broadcast, is that the FBI was "contacted" twice. Once before the incident, and a second time after the incident.

As I understand it, the recording device for the security system had already over written the data by the time they figured out who it was in the news.

No. Again, reliable facts being hard to come by, the three hours is the interval between start and engagement/shootout with SWAT.

The shooter somehow disabled the armed guard at the door, went in shooting, was engaged by two or three other police who had happened to be nearby (I have not heard the time inter=val between start and this engagement, but it may I have been reported - I picture something on the order of 5 to 15 minutes). The armed cops spooked the shooter to go out of sight. I don't know what the armed cops who had been inside did after that. SWAT arrived, the shooter did his facebooking, calling around, shout outs, shooting some more people, etc. for another two, two and half hours (not much of that time shooting, but not none of that time shooting). SWAT, who was on scene for close to three hours, did their thing. The SWAT thing will be subject of substantial criticism on a few angles - I have no opinion. One angle is delay. Another angle is the failed explosive breach, and another angle is death by friendly fire.

The press has done its usual abysmal job of reporting simple facts.

FBI..... cant connect dots
ONLY FUNCTIONS AS THE BODY BAG BRIGADE
AFTER
A MUZZIE JIHAD ATTACK

day late dollar short repeatedly...
maybe hillary can explain her role in frustrating the FBI in infiltrating muslims
her concern being the vadst amount of campaign funds coming from the house of saud and others who directly fund terror globally
maybe hillary can explain her huma girlfriend relationship with jihadi facilitators
Earlier this week as America was trying to make sense of the deadliest case of Islamic terrorism on US soil since 9/11, I wrote a detailed article here at Breitbart News that laid out the clear factual case about Hillary Clinton’s top assistant Huma Abedin.
she has deep, clear, and inarguable connections to a Saudi Arabian official named Abdul Omar Naseef, a powerful Kingdom insider who has helped lead a group called the Muslim World League.
The Muslim World League is the huge “charity” whose goal is to spread Islam throughout the world and which has been connected to terror groups like Al Qaeda.
If that sounds like a serious accusation, you’re damn right it is.
I said that it’s time for Hillary Clinton to give Americans straight answers about Huma and her facilitating murder by jihadi...

The AP thinks an AR-15 is an assault rifle.

Well... if you take the barrel of an AR-15 and shove it right up AP's butt, that is legally assault.

Was he wearing body armor when he committed the massacre? I hadn’t read that. If so maybe he was able to purchase what he was asking for at this store, military grade stuff, someplace else. And who that was would be interesting to know. Meanwhile it’s sad to note how slow and incompetent political correctness has made what was once the premier law enforcement agency on the planet.
