But I always came back to the reality that I was — and my dozens of like-minded friends were — doing this for OUR loved ones. If we succeeded and millions of the disconnected, uninvolved bastards who hadn’t lifted a hand or, worse, were, themselves, part of the problem, were dragged along, so be it.

Me, too. I recently had a conversation with my older brother (a Socialist, but a nice guy). I said something about the threat from Radical Islam and he said ‘I don’t believe that. I don’t believe it will ever be a problem for me’. And I said, ‘I suspect the people in San Bernardino thought the same way’. And he said ‘San Bernardino?’ This was just in February.
