SWITZERLAND has withdrawn its application to join the European Union just a week before Britain votes on its own EU membership.

Your immediate cries of racist shows even you know you lost that exchange.
At this point that would exclude approximately 60% of our population:
Sorry, pal. Suggesting that women not be allowed to vote because they vote a little more liberally, on average, than men begs the comparison to thus not allowing blacks, Hispanics, or Asians to vote either—since their Leftward leaning is far greater than that of women.
Unless, the defense is that women somehow are chattel, and Sharia law and the Islamic countries of the world have it right.
Nothing wrong with my making inquiry to tease out the source thinking behind the bigotry.
“Swexit!”
Perfect.
They would have to pass my own screening requirements, of course.
If only WE could end women’s suffrage.
“At this point that would exclude approximately 60% of our population.”
I read the article. The 60% figure would decrease if they factored out Social Security Retirement Income and Medicare. Those transfer payments were legitimately earned through ongoing payroll taxes for most people. But any unearned benefit, like welfare or medicaid, should be a disqualifier removing a recipient from the voter rolls; even temporarily, due to conflict of interest.
Medicare recipients, especially, are taking far, far more out of the system, on average, than they ever put in. As, of course, are many SS recipients.
I get your point and my leanings are toward tiny-government libertarianism. Just suggesting that most—including many here—would currently be removed from the voter rolls by that criterion.
Maybe the Swiss did not want Brussels telling them that they would need to take a million mooslims in exchange for membership. Good riddance, spit.
Yep, fun to swatch.
Next thing you know there will be fully automatic rifles in any number of Swiss homes.
HOORAY Switzerland
There’s been a lot of study in the subject. Politicians know how to manipulate the ladies. Men and women think differently. As one poster said, look what we have now.
I’m not taking one side or another, I’m just saying look at the situation.
Gen.Blather wrote:"... People stuck with Euros will be hurting as there is nothing to back the currency...."
A family member traveled to Europe last month and spent some time in Italy, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Hungary and London. Each country continue to use their own currency or credit cards. The Euro was not used much at all.
Here is a pretty complete story on currency, who uses what. Regardless, people holding Eros may be hurting. There are billions of them out there. (On the humorous side, the EU created very high denomination bills so that drug lords could hold them. Currency that is not in circulation is the same as an interest free loan for that amount. They have since changed that because, horrors! the currency is being held by drug lords!)

“First they reject guaranteed income, and now this. Go Switzerland! (If only they could repeal womans suffrage.)”
Unfortunately they left the gold standard in 1999, sold most of their gold, and recently defeated a referendum to rebuild their gold reserves to 20% of reserve bank assets.
But the voting evidence is of much larger gaps between racial minorities (or gays and straights) than between men and women. Presumably you think gays and nonwhites must be even more different-thinking and able to be manipulated by pols than women are. No?
The male/female differential is actually relatively small. (It appears larger because so many more black women than men, for example, are eligible to vote, adding part of that racial differential to the gender difference.)
So the more effective restriction is what I am suggesting better fits your stated goals and concerns. Yet, you know better than to promote that here.
Clint Howard. I think he was on “Gentle Ben” with Dennis Weaver. Way back....
