John Kerry unloading yacht that made waves Authors Gayle Fee for Boston Herald
The 76-foot luxury yacht Isabel the tony tub that sailed Secretary of State John Kerry into stormy political seas a few years ago when the Track revealed that he and his wife had dodged a $437,500 state tax bill on their swanky $7 million sailboat is up for sale.
Kerry and the missus, ketchup heiress Teresa Heinz, listed the New Zealand-built Friendship sloop for a mere $4 million with luxury yacht brokers Northrop & Johnson in Newport, R.I. some $3 million less than they paid for it back in 2010.
Boats do depreciate very, very quickly, said a source with knowledge of the sale.
Kerry, who was in Oslo, Norway, attending a dinner for the foreign minister, declined to comment on the sale through a spokesman. An attorney for the Heinz family didnt return a call or email. Were guessing the duo would rather not rehash the political shipwreck that was the Isabel in 2010.
That was when the Track revealed that Kerry had ported the yacht in Newport even painting the Rhode Island sailing havens name on the boats stern thus avoiding a six-figure sales tax bill from the cash-strapped commonwealth of Mass.

And I thought the 57’ Beneteau was a spacious vessel. Yeah, the owner sucks but the boat is quite nice.
lol
You guys may not know it but John Kerry served in Vietnam.
He’s getting a bit old to haul sails around.
That day when you realize you can no longer play with your big-boy toys will come to us all, eventually.
Office to woo clients.
"...If you are going to spend millions on a yacht why not go first class and get one with a helicopter on board..."
The word is his wife is sick & her kids are unloading the properties, the house, the boat, so John the gigolo can’t get his hands of her stuff.
EYE BLEACH PLEASE!
Better still, just gouge them out with a red hot poker.
Oh its being written off no doubt.
I can easily believe that. Might have something to do with the “prenup” also. I am sure her lawyers are making sure her children are protected properly.
LOL
The two best days owning a boat are the day you buy and the day you sell it.

I live up in the area, so the word is out on why there is a sudden sale of large family assets. Her children have no real, or close relationship with Kerry....though I’m sure he will get some blood money out of her.
If you can afford a boat that big, there are always people willing to hang out with you, drink your beer, and hang around.
Seriously though, I would think three competent sailors could handle her. Those boats are set up to run everything from the cockpit. Keep in mind you just push a button to raise the mainsail or reefing the main.
The only things I find curious are the two winches on the fore deck, maybe for flying the spinnaker or a jib? There are two winches on both the starboard and port sides of the cockpit for the Jenny. I would think they are electric motor winches too.
My father in law had a Freedom 32 with a 52’ graphite mast. The Main sail had a huge roach in it. It was a B#tch to put up. When he sold the boat the first thing the new owner did was put an electric motor on that winch to raise the mainsail.
I saw pics of the interior once. She’s gorgeous.
We have a 40’ sailboat. Things I used to do I now hire the neighbor 34 year old to do. Lol
