Sometimes history repeat itself (and not always as a comedy).
Three days before we were going to vote for or against Sweden joining the Euro in 2003, our foreign minister, another young woman, Anna Lindh, was stabbed to death. The campaign was suspended and we were treated to days of propaganda - how much Ms Lindh had wanted us to join the Euro, how much we owed her, etc. All really disgusting. The polls that had shown a NO victory since early March (this was in September) suddenly in some cases showed an even race. However, on the election day people still did not vote in the way our politicians wanted, and we kept or Swedish krona.
Some years later it was shown how wise the people had been.
I hope the British will show the same wisdom.
History may not repeat, but it sure does rhyme.
Prayers up.
Thanks for your insight.
Thanks for that historical reminder.
Someone posted (on another thread about this MP) that the tactic in Spain, just before elections, worked. Shut down the opposition.
"We certainly condemn a mental case for shooting a member of Parliament. But as patriots, we are not willing to abandon our loyalty to home & country. Of course, we have a duty to put Britain First--the actions of a mental case do not change our duty."
Anna Lindh's killer, a 25-year old Swedish male, Mijailo Mijailovic (born to Serbian immigrant parents), was declared to be mentally disturbed and that he acted alone. He was finally sentenced to a closed psychiatric ward.
According to Wikipedia.org, 8-years later, Mijailovic broke silence and gave his first press conference about the killing in 2011. He expressed his apology and said he had absolutely nothing against Ms Lindh personally and that it was not in any way politically motivated.
Mijailovic's Wikipedia portal was created by a contributor named "Gavleson" who has also been responsible for submitting numerous Swedish government (Sweden Portal) articles. To name a few....more at the URL below.
