Top conservatives meet at secret dinner to discuss Cruz's future
The Hill ^ | 6/15/2016 | Jonathan Swan

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) attended a confidential dinner with more than 20 top conservatives on Tuesday night to plan his comeback as a movement leader in the mold of Ronald Reagan.

The dinner was at the Virginia home of conservative activist Brent Bozell, and the agenda was to plot Cruz’s future and the future of the conservative movement. The undertone of the dinner was about how to position Cruz for a future tilt at the presidency and to spearhead the conservative movement from his seat in the Senate, those in attendance said.

Dining with Cruz and his chief of staff, Paul Teller, were some of the most powerful figures in the conservative movement.

The spectrum of economic, national security and social conservatives seated at the table included Heritage Foundation President Jim DeMint, Club for Growth President David McIntosh, direct-mail guru Richard Viguerie, National Rifle Association board member and former Cincinnati Mayor Ken Blackwell, and Susan B. Anthony List President Marjorie Dannenfelser, sources confirmed.

According to those in attendance, the leaders discussed how they could work more effectively together and how to harness their vast financial and human networks in the service of conservative principles and Cruz's career.

Combined, those at the table have access to hundreds of millions of dollars and some of the largest ground armies on the right.

There was no specific discussion of electoral politics or whether Cruz will support presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump this cycle.

Many of the leaders at the dinner want Cruz to run for president again, and they are viewing Cruz’s unsuccessful 2016 run as similar to Reagan’s failed attempt in 1976 to unseat the incumbent Republican president, Gerald Ford.

I saw a thread here several days ago that said gop.com refused to acknowledge Trump, and I thought it was a lie. I went to the site (as you probably did) and, boy, was I shocked.

I checked the Republican Senate and House websites also. Neither had ONE WORD about Trump.

One can but sympathize with your plight, endlessly confronted as you’ve no doubt are with paranoid Cruz supporters who cannot be reasoned with, who insist on dealing with facts, who persist in nagging, nagging nagging, yeah begging even for one measly example.

There you again. “Facts” like 50 Americans laying dead in the street and Dems rampaging to repeal our 2A rights mean nothing to you because “we don’t have a nominee” yet. How patriotic of you. I’ll be thinking of you and the Quisling GOP toe tappers when the kenyan is verbally assaulting patriotic Americans today in Orlando.

You can repeat your assertions for the hundred and fifth time but it will not change the fact that in the first debate Trump declined to agree to the pledge. Later, when he thought the landscape was favorable he took the pledge

Stubborn much? Good Lord, man, what Trump did has nothing to do with Cruz action to taking pledge. It was not a contract involving 2 parties, it was a pledge. They are different things.

As I said, I am glad I have no business dealings with you, as from your comments it seems that your word pledge/promise/vow is contingent on someone else’s actions.

For now, it is a free country until Hillz puts in her slate of cabinet heads and Supremes), so you and Cruz can vote as you please, and I am taking a guess that you will be counted as #NeverTrump/#EverHillary. Enjoy your freedom though, because may be very short lived.

This is all about Cruz attempting to live out his life as a crypto-fantasy of a reincarnated Reagan Moses.

So was Glenn Beck supposed to be Cruz's Elijah?

You might consider how you’re going to convince anyone that you are adding to Trump’s vote count with these antics.

Seriously? Please correct me if I am wrong, but from your replies to my multiple posts, I seriously doubt you are even slightly moveable from your anti-Trump position. He did lie, and I can get 10 posters to ante in with video clips, but why bother? You have made your position pretty clear.

Regarding antics, this is an internet forum. Whether someone here on this forum says something snarky or derogatory about a candidate in a way you don’t like should not influence your vote. If Cruz was the candidate, regardless of the nasty insulting things I have been called here (and they are plentiful), I would be looking to vote for the good of the country and in the end would put bad behavior aside and cast the vote against Hillary. Period.

He DOES have a say over the GOP platform that will be adopted at the convention, which is what i had in mind.

Name one thing that the platform has changed for the better.

Traducing Ted Cruz

They are not lies Nathan. There is only one way out of this mess with ballots and Cruz is not it.

I will be looking to vote the same way and that is why I long ago stated that that I would vote for the nominee, including Trump, for the good of the country. I did not take an oath to countenance outrageous libel against Cruz and the true cause of conservatism.

A pledge is a pledge. If Cruz doesn't honor the pledge, then he has no honor.

You can rationalize, obfuscate, and spin that until you're blue in the dace, but that's the bottom line.

Either Ted Cruz honors his pledge, or he's a lying sack of sh!t...

Cruz is simply the worst. Just a deplorable excuse for a man. A complete phony.

Run this guy out of the Senate.

The pledge is and always has been conditioned on good behavior by the nominee. To accuse Cruz’ father of murder, or even to insinuate it, is bad behavior so egregious that it relieves Cruz of any obligation.
That slander merely compounded the egregious behavior by the nominee in falsely accusing Cruz of serial adultery.

All this was done knowingly and cynically by the nominee with a view to advancing his own personal political fortunes at the expense of the man he slandered. Worse, it was done callously with no decent regard for the family of Ted Cruz whom Trump so brutally damaged.

We are lucky if Cruz does not take to the stump against Trump because he would be fully morally justified in doing so. It would be terrible for us politically but completely understandable in terms of human morality and the call of dignity.

Using your logic 13 million Trump voters personally smeared by Ted Cruz as “low info” should never support Cruz again. See how that works? I’ll buy you a clue: continuing the primary is not to your candidates advantage.

Pass me the Ritalin.

Instead of Ritalin, may I suggest a nice Mosel Spatlese or Auslese? Any vintage from Urziger Wurzgarten will do, although my limited budget constrains me to a Piesporter Michelsberg.

The Texas High Plains AVA has been producing excellent Riesling. While in Lubbock yesterday, I stopped at the Llano Estecado winery. Their 2014 Riesling was as delectable as any Spatlese I've had.

Wouldn't you agree that there's a canyon's width of distance between being called a "low info voter" vs. your father being linked to Lee Harvey Oswald?

Did Rafael Cruz smear Trump’s religious beliefs campaigning on behalf of Ted Cruz? Yes. Did Donald Trump ever personally attack Cruz supporters? No.

We can play this game all day long. But it’s not about primary battles now. It’s now about stopping Hillary and saving lives because Democrat policies like sanctuary cities and weakness on terrorism will assuredly cause more tragedies like Orlando.
