Rubio says he will reconsider running for reelection

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) will reconsider his decision not to run for reelection, he told reporters Wednesday.

Rubio reopened the door to running after speaking with Florida Lt. Gov. Carlos López-Cantera, a close friend of his who is running to replace him.

Sunday's mass shooting at an Orlando nightclub that left 49 dead made him rethink his decision, Rubio said.

“Obviously, I take very seriously everything that’s going on — not just Orlando, but in our country,” he said. “I enjoy my service here a lot. So I’ll go home later this week, and I’ll have some time with my family, and then if there’s been a change in our status, I’ll be sure to let everyone know.”

Rubio has until next week to decide whether to enter the GOP primary for his seat.

The establishment ran tens of millions of dollars in Florida alone in attack ads against Rubio (mainly to help Bush, most certainly) which drove his negatives sky high...that remained after Bush dropped out.

Trump himself has been urging Rubio to reconsider and run for re-election...that’s a well publicized story...yet look at all of the people posting here as though they haven’t heard of this.

He already has had Trump’s backing - Trump has been urging him to get back into the race.

I actually don’t think he should - it would be best for him to take a break from politics...either temporarily or permanently.

Trump was pushing the GOP to adopt “comprehensive immigration reform” (amnesty) at the same time Rubio got involved with that bill. Trump blamed Romney for being too tough on immigration for his loss. Trump abandoned the idea when he decided to run for President himself.

I have no idea why Trump is supporting him to get back into the race. The Reps in FL dislike him. He will be primaried and probably lose.

Trump also endorsed Ellmers and she lost in the primary. She was another amnesty supporter.

Trump’s attacks on him worked very well. Trump is not running for the Senate seat.

Shoot me in the head if you like, this would be good for our chances of keeping the seat. None of the other candidates are as likely to keep the seat as Rubio, democrats are clearly frightened at the prospect. The only one demonstrably more conservative than Rubio is Ron DeSantis. DeSantis has posted impressive fund-raising but risk/reward wise, betting that he’ll win the primary and general, I don’t know.

David Jolly is significantly less conservative than Rubio, sounds like he’s jumping back into the race for his gerrymandered House seat against faglord Charlie Crist regardless of Rubio’s decision, which is good news.

Rubio was sweating for the cameras a few times on Sunday. It wasn’t particularly memorable.

I missed it, unless he was on your local Florida TV stations.

Saw Rubio on Air Force One with Obama and Biden when they landed in Orlando a couple of days ago. Not greeting them on the tarmac... he flew from DC with them to FL on Air Force One. Kind of surprising.
