KARWAR, KARNATAKA: Two people including a sailor of Indian Navy died in an accident on board INS Vikramaditya, the Russian-made aircraft carrier, today evening. Two others were injured.
A spokesperson of Indian Navy said that the "incident of gas leakage on board INS Vikramaditya took place at about 5:00 PM."
Four people repairing the sewage treatment "inhaled" toxic fumes and were evacuated to hospital, the spokesperson said.
The aircraft carrier is undergoing routine repair and refit at the Karwar Naval Base in Karnataka.
The two who died were identified as Rakesh Kumar Shipwright Artificer Class 4, and Shri Mohandas Kolambkar, an employee of M/s Royal Marine.
The condition of the other two personnel is stable. The Navy has ordered an inquiry into the incident.
INS Vikramaditya is India's largest naval ship and equipped with a variety of integral weapons and sensors.
Wow, she’s big.
I know we are in the Jet age, but an American WWII USS Yorktown CV-5 carried 90 planes,
Wow, She’s junk.
R.
Wow, you have reasons? Or do you just do bumper stickers?
I am not sure why such a capital ship of the Indian Navy has such a small complement of aircraft.
BTW: I think we are in an age where smart countries can sink our carriers in the first few days of hostilities.
War ships of all types are dangerous work places. Lord have mercy on those who go to sea.
It was never designed to a full-scale carrier. The Soviets built it to be a missile cruiser that could carry STOVL aircraft, so the overall layout of the ship was never aimed for heavy-duty operations.
That’s funny . “Indian navy”? What are we doing— social experiments with pregnant women and faggots?
ISN’T THAT THE SHIP they got from Russia?
I think carriers are obsolete. I think any country with any real power, can sink them fast. I think Iran knows how to. Our Navy doctrine is too carrier centralized. Check out Millennium Challenger 2002, what a cluster!
Is that right? I believe you. They have the NUKE? Why are we not invading like Iraq ( who had nothing) ? Shock -n- awe? Is it because they are a sovereign nation and have 1 billion people? We are such idiots.
Very unfortunate incedent. I wonder if the have or used a confined space protocol. Methane can be insidious.
incedent = incident
One thing about our Navy, we have procedures that keep our sailors safe. This sort of thing wouldn’t happen unless someone didn’t follow procedure.
And one for China? Whats all this i hear about China being a bully in the China seas. interesting..

Boy we used to have 12 operating carriers before.
Down to 11.
Toxic gas leak in the Indian carrier’s sewage system....
...omg how could they even tell?
And when they found out, like, what was the warning message?
“Code Vindaloo! I repeat, we are at Code Vindaloo!”
