A Georgia homeowner shot in the neck after police went to the wrong house has died, a lawyer for the family said Friday.
William Powell, 63, died Thursday afternoon at Atlanta Medical Center, attorney Keith Martin said.
A preliminary review of the 911 call indicates the three officers who responded had gone to the wrong home and showed up at Powell's house, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said.
Powell was armed with a gun and was shot in the neck by one of the officers, authorities said. He had grabbed the gun for protection, not knowing who might be outside in the dark of night, Martin said. A nearby home had been burglarized just two weeks before the shooting, he added.

You are very fortunate that you was not killed. This day and age, anytime one walks away with their life from an encounter with the police, they should thank the Good Lord.
You’re right: Tennessee.
So you would let them keep their jobs and pensions.
“Police[BANG]!”
Ok, I carry a gun for a living so bear with me and I’ll give my view: call comes in: “fighting and gun shots” with no address, just an “area.” It’s night. It’s not your neighborhood. You race to the location with no more information than above. You get to the general area and step out of the car with lights flashing and your flash light on...
Show of hands: who’s been there?
Personally, I have a simple system at night with this scenario: Everyone in a 500 yard area knows I’m there because I tell them. Loud. You draw, I draw. You point, I point. Otherwise, we cool.
I’ve never killed a dog or a human. I carry dog treats in the car. I think the 2nd Amendment is the greatest thing God gave us. I love armed homeowners.
I know that it seems like these guys were careless - and they may have been - but I reserve some judgement. If you think that officer went home excited that he shot an innocent man then I encourage you to talk to more officers, please. It’s not fun out in the dark and humans make terrible mistakes, but that guy will pay a price no matter what happened.
Mistaken Lives Matter
How does one value the loss of a human life? Expensive?
I would charge all 3 with Murder
No. They obviously have immunity. Prosecution would be futile.
Shoot someone under questionable circumstances and they should lose their jobs as armed police officers. No appeal, no union interference, no reinstatements.
We happened to be outside when the first squad car rolled up, so there was no need to employ the battering rams they had brought with them. Now what do you suppose would have happened if I had gone to the door carrying a .357 in response to the horrific banging at the front door?
You would be sitting on a cloud holding a daisy.

Why bother with paperwork?
What difference does it make?
More likely a tomato since that is what we were being ‘busted’ for...
That breaks my heart. Prayers for the family.
Still more police idiocy.
Sadly, I can't really dispute that , though it started long before the 'blm' crap.
What’s a home dies?
