TWA 800 was destroyed twenty years ago this July off the coast of Long Island. Mike Wire was one of the 258 FBI witnesses who reported an apparent missile strike. The New York Times, which owned the story, interviewed not a single one of them. In the absence of real information, the CIA and FBI collaborated to discredit the eyewitnesses and advance an exploding fuel tank theory. Wires case is just one shocking example out of many. To learn more, see Jack Cashills introductory article in this series or his book, TWA 800: The Crash, The Cover-Up, The Conspiracy (Regnery: July 5).
Recently the CIA released documents pertaining to the tragic destruction of TWA 800. During review of those documents, I have learned that the CIA had designated me as Witness #1 to the heartbreaking events of that day. For the FBI, I was only Witness #571. How the CIA came to decide upon me is at the heart of this miscarriage of justice.
On July 17, 1996, I was working to get the new Beach Lane Bridge in Westhampton ready to open. The bridge crosses the narrow inland waterway and connects the mainland with a small strip of beach beyond.
As a millwright tradesman, I had been working all day in the mechanical room of the bridge. A little before 8:30 p.m. that night, I surfaced to get some air. I was talking to one of the many men working with me when I saw what looked like a cheap firework rising from beyond the houses along the beach. This wasnt out of the ordinary for a summer weekday so close to the 4th of July.

The ninth circle of hell waits for traitors to God, Country, and their fellow man.
Wasn't that the same individual that claimed white supremecists were responsible for the DC Sniper shootings during that disaster?
Wow. Has it really been 20 years? I remember debating the causes here on FR back then.
Because Clinton is now the nominee and her husband was president when this horror occurred.
I have no idea what happened. I was living in Brooklyn, and within a day there were totally elaborate theories typewritten and photocopied and posted on telephone poles in the neighborhood. They looked to have been produced by a literally insane person, but they pointed to the naval exercises supposedly occurring in the vicinity.
I have always liked conspiracy theories. despite that, most of them don’t strike me as very believable.
TWA 800 is an exception. It totally stinks to high heaven.
Why do you think that would be hard? The military is not a democracy. It kills people.
that is exactly the flaw with all conspiracy theories. No one can keep a secret! Ever.

From the above post, the second line:
see Jack Cashills ... book, TWA 800: The Crash, The Cover-Up, The Conspiracy (Regnery: July 5).
Jack Cashill has a book coming out.
I don't say that cynically. But that's the reason for the new attention.
Which is is good thing.
Cashill one night lay it out plainly that he thinks the u.s. Navy shot it down.
Witness sketches at this website.

The LI witnesses Eick, 530, 541, 649 were roughly 8 to 15 miles away from the airplane. They all describe a flare like light rising from the horizon before the explosion, some saying it zigzagged (tracking.)
At an altitude of 13800 feet and 8 miles off shore, TWA was well above the horizon for these people. So it breaking apart at 13800 feet and the main body lit up like a flare soaring to 17000 feet before exploding could not possibly account for what the witnesses saw.
I remember that too.
The crash happened on US Veterans Day 11/12/2001.
Weren’t there two Queens emergency services personnel who were emphatic that they saw a small explosion in the fuselage before that plane crashed?
It was ridiculous to hear the “official” narrative quickly spread by mainstream media telling us that the plane’s tail flight surface fell off.

RE: “I know someone who witnessed AA 587 on 10/12/01 and what he reported was also ignored. He was closer than anyone else earthbound at the time. He was almost directly under 587 when it exploded and started to break up. He was/is the Captain of a boat in Jamaica Bay and when the tail section fell into the South channel, he went and held station over the wreckage until Harbor G (NYPD) arrived.”
We keep coming back, though, to a very troubling point for the conspiracy theorists, namely there is no shoulder fired missile that had the range to reach the airliner, unless (and even this is a stretch) directly under it at sea at the time it was fired. But that isn’t what he describes.
On the other hand, the missiles that COULD have reached it were military missiles such as a STANDARD. Yet there is not on single iota of evidence that any ship anywhere in that vicinity released a STANDARD missile that day. Not one single sailor or officer alluding to such. Moreover, the radar tape that I have seen shows NO other object approaching 800.
Third, there is no evidence of a missile strike on any of the 800 debris. There was “red residue” on SOME of the seats, which conspiracy people attribute to a “pass-through” missile. 1) This isn’t proven by any stretch; 2) a STANDARD is not a “pass through” missile. It carries an explosive warhead that wouldn’t even leave this kind of evidence.
The result is that theorists are now left with finding a pass through missile like a target drone used in an exercise. But again, there is no Navy exercise using missiles on any record that day, nor is there ONE radar blip anyone could attribute to a “pass through” missile, nor is there a SECOND radar blip of an anti-aircraft/target-acquisition missile fired from a ship in such an exercise. So, a ship just fired a (say) cruise missile drone that left no radar signature, then did NOT try to shoot it down with another missile (that left no signature?)
I am in sympathy with those who want to find a conspiracy here. I cannot.
There were naval excercises going on off the coast... I believe they shot the plane down either by accident...(locked on to wrong target) or they had a reason to take the plane... but it was shot down by a sea going vessel.
Don’t know.
From the article: "I was talking to one of the many men working with me when I saw what looked like a cheap firework rising from beyond the houses along the beach."
It doesn't say it arose from the shore, he says from his point of view, it arose from beyond the houses along the beach. A Bing Maps view of Beach Lane Bridge shows the bridge to be north of a small house-lined beach, separated by the main part of Long Island by a small inlet. If he was on the bridge, he was north of the houses, and a missile launched on the other side of the houses would have certainly been on the water.

20 year out milestone
Let me just say This was no boating accident
Cashill wrote this article a couple years ago “Anderson Cooper: ‘TWA Flight 800 Was Shot Down’” detailing how Cooper first stated how the flight was “shot down” and then later had to recant the statement to having “mis-spoke”.

I had not heard about them, but that discription matches what my friend told me he witnessed. He also told me that someone claiming to be FBI called him that evening and asked him to relate what he saw. When he had finished, whoever was on the phone said "Thank you" and hung up. That was the last he heard about it...or so he says.
