Voters don't hate Joe Biden, 73, the genial vice president who openly agonized last year before deciding not to put himself and his family through the rigors of a presidential bid in the wake of the 2015 death of his son after a battle with brain cancer.
Not most voters, anyway. In a nationwide poll conducted in March for Bloomberg Politics, only 35 percent of respondents had a negative view of Biden compared with 68 percent who had a negative view of Trump, 53 percent who viewed Clinton unfavorably and 41 percent with a negative impression of Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, who also is vying for the Democratic nomination.
Biden's favorability rating in that same poll was 57 percent compared with 29 percent for Trump, 44 percent for Clinton and 52 percent for Sanders.
If Clinton's email-related problems get worse or other developments sink her popularity far below even Trump's, causing her to step aside, Biden, as a more establishment figure than Sanders, would be the party's likely choice as a "slip-in" candidate and an almost certain winner against Trump.
Sanders' die-hard supporters would be outraged, of course, but they're already outraged. The online ranting of the "Bernie or Bust" crowd that a Trump presidency would ultimately be better for the causes they believe in than a Clinton (or, presumably, Biden) presidency because it would galvanize a progressive revolution in 2020 is naive

I’m warming towards the latter.
Just because the GoPee did not touch Biden does not mean Trump won’t. Trump will rip him to shreds.
Sander’s supporters are outraged because they’re against everything Shrillary and Biden stand for. Sanders has been anti-establishment and “down for the struggle”. Biden is the consummate insider D.C. schmoozer.
How can you legally do this? Isn’t there a rule that says you have till this certain date to be a candidate? If not, then anyone can jump into the mess right now...if it is so, is it just because its the DemonRATS that can do this, but the Republican party can’t?....Course I understand there is not a division of parties anymore hence: Hillary is running, Bush was suppose to be the RNC candidate, but he got battered so bad, they tossed Cruz in, and he’s whatever he is, just so Hillary could win...But now Trump is the RNC nominee so back to my question, how can that work?...
I bet Trump already has a name picked out for uncle Joe.
This was planned from the beginning, starting with Biden’s press conference saying that he would not run. He could have done that with a press release from his office. Instead he has an announcement - from the White House - with Obama standing behind him , implicitly giving support to Biden.
Last 'respectable' Dem candidate I can think of was Harry Truman. And that was in my life time.
I think we know the answer to that.
"Don't forget one thing."
"A good supply of bodybags."
a lot has changed since March
“falters” = indicted
[ Joe Biden would be an excellent ‘slip-in’ candidate if Hillary Clinton falters ]
He’s clean.
He’s articulate.
I think it’s true that voters don’t hate Joe Biden. They casually despise him. However, if they knew him better, they would hate him.
Well it happened before that a Vice President was replaced after the convention. It was not a successful move for the rats. http://www.npr.org/2012/08/04/157670201/the-thomas-eagleton-affair-haunts-candidates-today
Well.... that just shows that Biden is not sexist. He'll put his hands on anybody.
Starting with one of his new nicknames: Plugs or Roaming Hands............
The Trump Express will drive right over plugs.
Truman tried to be an honest American president, yes.
JFK made mistakes and had a lot of shortcomings but did seem reasonably loyal, too, for whatever its worth. Lieberman (who the commies ran out of the D party) was too liberal for my tastes but looked honest and loyal and willing to defend America. There were a couple more that I think could pass the “respectable” test...but YES, your point is well taken... the D’s have had some pretty awful candidates (and just nominating Carter and Obama should condemn the D party to a very low level in Dante’s Inferno...! My Lord how could such terrible things happen to us in this great country!?)
Goodness, if Joe had run, he might now be the nominee-in-waiting. Maybe not enough now like Mrs. Bill, but tens of millions want to like her.

I’ll go with Chester the........ you know the rest..
