Cheap and “Not Demoralized” Labor Express.

I get a lot of static from Lazamataz because I am a contractor in an office of mostly H1Bs. If I was a citizen of India, in fact, I would have to BE a H1B to do what I am doing.

But no, I don’t hire H1Bs, haven’t hired a single one yet. That’s a silly idea (Laz), because I am an engineer, not a supervisor.

One thing I wish I could really emphasize to people debating the situation. The tone is just different in the office where I am than it is in most American businesses. The people CARE about each other. They are NOT NIHILISTS. Just the other day one of the gentlemen that we knew in the office had a child born to him and his wife. The whole bloomin’ office both in USA and in India was oohing and ahing over it in a flurry of email.

In the businesses where I’ve worked before, something like that would elicit a quick “Oh! How nice, when’s the shower?” At most. Like hummetydrum and the beat goes on.

America has GOT to put away the cynicism, or it will be living in a self fulfilling prophecy, orchestrated by the devil. God doesn’t make pessimism, people. The devil does. And our biggest problem isn’t even that of a dilution of physical labor pool as it is a dilution of ATTITUDE. The immigrants of old would bust their rears in order to raise up an enterprise, and the whole city would hum. Now it’s like, hokay, where’s the welfare office? Whole different ATTITUDE and PICTURE.

I firmly believe the government free Shiite programs are a much more pervasive danger than the H1B program.

So basically, somebody had a baby and people wondered if there would be a shower.

Further, you tell people to think happy thoughts, because, yeah, that...

Then, oddly enough, you go full kitchen-sink by inexplicably invoking a religious appeal, not of God, but of the devil.

Bad morale exists among many non foreign workers ... because of all the foreign workers. I've spent countless unpaid overtime, weekends, during vacations cleaning up after their messes.

and they are treated better than we are. They are used to scare us into putting those hours in and covering up the disaster that is offshoring and crappy h1-b hires. If you don't destroy your family life and health for the boss you'll get replaced. They even bluntly threaten it.

Sure, everyplace is different, but they've all been as described at the companies I've worked for. You are very lucky not to be in such an environment. But they are common place.

My biggest gripe of all, is that companies hire "so called" master degree developers, from untraceable universities in India... that just "manage" to have EXACTLY the skill sets listed on the job descriptions... on their resumes. Amazing how that works.

Last time we were about to hire one of them, I decided to "test" my theory... and got HR to put experience for a software tool that DIDN'T EVEN EXIST on the job requirements. Guess what happened? Almost ALL of the Indian applicants had that non existent tool on their resumes.

Back 30 years ago, that was exactly how it was in Silicon Valley, Portland OR and other centers of High Tech.
It is NOT like that now.

75% of hiring managers are now from India and when they need key people, they ONLY hire Indians.
Americans are given crap assignments and every attempt is made by HR and management to force them into early retirement.
Americans are expected to train in their new workers knowing that in 5 years, they will take their job.

I was forced out after 25 years at Intel.
I could have stayed but all it would have meant is for next 5 years they would have made my life a living hell until I left.

You are lucky right now.
It won’t last.

It’s nice that the Indians care for each other.

I’d bet that everyone on this board knows at least one person who’s job was lost to H1-B outsourcing or they know of a recent college graduate that can’t find work due to OPT visa abuse.

There are so many Americans out there with the appropriate skills that cannot find work due to guest worker visa abuse. As long as this is the case, they need to go home.
