Donald Trump on Friday said it would be inappropriate to hold a debate with Bernie Sanders, throwing cold water on an idea that had captivated the political world in recent days.
"As much as I want to debate Bernie Sanders and it would be an easy payday I will wait to debate the first place finisher in the Democratic Party, probably Crooked Hillary Clinton, or whoever it may be," Trump said in a statement.
The presumptive GOP presidential nominee added that it "seems inappropriate" to debate the "second place finisher."

Absolutely correct! The upside was enormous, and the downside was small. But more than that, say what you mean, and mean what you say. This backtracking is starting to make Trump look like just another typical politician. And I say that as a Trump supporter from day one.
So Democrats and Republicans for Hillary talked him out of it.
Lol..no...he actually accomplished a lot without having to even debate:
1. He set up Hillary as an afterthought for all voters. For the last 2 or 3 days all anyone has heard is positive or neutral about TRUMP and SANDERS. At the same time Clinton's email situation has been negative Clinton.
2. With Democrat voters he's elevated Sanders above Clinton. He's helped to cement Sanders as the front runner in the minds of millions of Dem voters. The scorn and the outrage that will be felt when Sanders is pushed aside will translate to Dem voters staying home.
3. He publicly made a vow to give money to women's issue charities yet didn't have to spend a dime doing it.
All in all it's a total net positive for Trump. Nobody is going to remember a debate that never happened in a week.
Good for Trump! Don’t waste time on commies.
HAHAHA! You completed my thought perfectly! LOLZ
That's a big exaggeration. Typical politicians do nothing and have driven us into decades of debt and decline. So Trump is not like them by any description.
This is not a typical election nor is Trump a typical bought off lying career lawyer politician candidate. He's brand new at this and even Trump stated he didn't know how he'd do or how he'd be received when he decided to run. But he cleaned all their clocks good didn't he?
For instance, it's becoming the norm when riots, physical attacks and property damage occur Trumps rallies by the leftist, illegals et al. See, this is not a normal election. The world leaders are crying on the phones. Not normal.
This is a learning process for Trump and he learns real quick. Can you tell? This has not been normal for Trump or this country. Everyone makes mistakes and regrettable comments, but Trump will tell us straight up, "That it, seems inappropriate to debate the second place finisher". And Trump
What else needs to be said? Story over.
Evidently not. He said he would debate Sanders, then he said he would not debate Sanders.
Look, I do not see this as something earth-shattering. I see it - mainly - as an great opportunity missed by Trump. And yes, it has caused me to question Trump just a little bit. I'm still firmly pro-Trump, but as I noted earlier, a man should say what he means, and mean what he says.
If Trump was not sure about debating Sanders, he simply should have so at the time. I fully understand that many folks here instead see this as a clever maneuver by Trump. I don't agree with that opinion, but I respect it.
He doesn’t have to shame her into a debate. Presidential candidates are expected to debate each other at least once or twice
He shouldn’t have said he would debate Sanders in the first place, but backing out makes him look cowardly. A successful capitalist with reasonable speaking skills should be able to out-debate a failed socialist easily.
Good for Trump. He probably wouldn’t change many minds in the first place, might slip the tongue and give the Demtards an easy line to spout, and Sanders supporters are generally so stupid anyway that the dumbest Trumpette looks like Thomas Edison next to them. It would be about like Steve Jobs entering a Pinewood Derby for speddies.
Seriously, what can he say to sound nicer to the Sandersons that wouldn’t be a total violation of everything conservative value about him? “I’m gonna give you MORE stuff”? “I’m gonna have the borders MORE wide open”?
