In general because far more FReepers pay nothing than those who donate to the cause. I opted to go ahead and donate the full extra $50 next week because most of those who don't donate have no sense of propriety. Those who really can't afford anything (far fewer than if you listen to their tales of woe) may be embarrassed to speak up.
At any rate - the rest of us do what we can.

“THANKS for the offer, I can’t give right now, but will in the future when things get better for me”
And some of us are feeling very guilty. I’m here daily and I’m not paying my fair share. Over decades I have been very generous but we have hard times and I struggle to feed 5 people some weeks. I have pledged my $12 and will pay it soon, and I hope those who count the $ do average my donations out over my time here. If I won the lottery I’d sure as heck share.
