Donald J. Trump has been working to mend fences with many of his detractors, but among literary luminaries it is looking like it will be a tough sell.
A group of more than 400 writers, including big names such as Stephen King, David Eggers, Amy Tan, Junot Díaz and Cheryl Strayed, released an online petition on Tuesday to express their opposition to Mr. Trumps candidacy on the grounds that he is appealing to the darkest elements in American society.
The rise of a political candidate who deliberately appeals to the basest and most violent elements in society, who encourages aggression among his followers, shouts down opponents, intimidates dissenters, and denigrates women and minorities, demands, from each of us, an immediate and forceful response, they wrote.

Shouts down his opponents? I only see that from the Left. I do not see Conservative protestors showing up to shout at Hillary.
A forceful response? Would that be a violent response? Such as paid protestors showing up at Trump rallies and throwing rocks at police officers? Killing their horses?
What monumental hypocrisy.
This sounds like a ringing endorsement to me. Leftist writers don’t like him? Excellent. lol
Stephen King, Cheryl Strayed Sign Open Letter Condemning Donald Trump
Another endorsement for Trump.
Otherwise known as “The Army of the Flying Monkeys”
I am the darkest element[s] in American society? Well, each to his own, I guess. He appeals to me, so the hell with what they think. Who cares?
“...appealing to the darkest elements in American society.”

This coming from Stephen King.
Great. Let let them go on record so I know who’s books, music, films I will never pay for again.
Cheryl Strayed???
You mean the psychotic nut job who hiked the PCT and wrote about it?
That’s quite a work of art. Who’s heard of her since?
It’s been bothering me lately that news outlets keep calling the protesters of Trump events “Trump protesters”. They are anti-Trump protesters, do they call anti-war protesters “war protesters”? Do they call gay rights protesters “gay protesters”?
A bunch of liberals do not want Trump to win.
Is this supposed to be shocking?
Names of writers?
400 more reasons to vote for Trump.
We don’t need them and they can pay for their own one way tickets to Antarctica!
Peculiar about the historically illiterate, they’re all from only about 6 states...LOL.
Notice how the letter gets our form of government wrong, calling this a democracy. I guess Utopia is a democracy, maybe thet’s where their heads are at.

These people sign because they think their opinion matters more than the opinion of the ordinary, unenlightened people like us.
Writers of crap.Stephen King has a sick mind that churns out horrific garbage .
The “writers” (the internet allows us ALL to be writers now) have to realize that the protest works both ways. I will protest them.
They won’t care which shows they have contempt for their customers as well.
Ok,OK.... I won’t vote for Trump...(snark)
Let’s see. Secure borders.keep jobs at home. Do not kill the babies. Yea the darkest elements.
