When Australia's most successful Olympian, Ian Thorpe, came out as gay in an interview with Sir Michael Parkinson in July 2014, he was inundated with messages of support.
At the time, some posed the question: does this even count as news? Is homosexuality today not a simple biographical detail rather than a sensational scandal?
And yet, it is significant that on the same night that Thorpe came out, Australian Rules Football commentator Brian Taylor used a homophobic slur on air, referring to Geelong player Harry Taylor as a "big poofter."
The two events accentuated perfectly why it remains the case, especially in the ultra-masculine world of sports, that a young gay athlete may feel scared to come out to themselves and their family, much less the fickle media and ambivalent public.
A culture of homophobia still permeates many sections of society. A Western Sydney University study has suggested that the Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transsexual Intersex and Queer (LGBTIQ) community face higher rates of suicide and self-harm than the hetero-normative mainstream. The Growing up Queer study found that 16% of young people who identify as LGBTIQ have attempted suicide and 33% have self-harmed.

Christians need to come to agreement with the Bible’s position on sodomite behavior: it’s deserving of death (Leviticus 20:13 and Romans 1:31). Look it up. Don’t take my word for i.
We should work hard to restore the laws against this reprehensible and disgusting behavior which we had in place at the founding of this nation.
The sodomites hates us. They want us dead. There is no reconciliation between good and evil.
Yes, Christians should not fear homosexuality. They should consider it to be an abomination just like God does.
And Islam must - oh,never mind.
Exactly.
I’m a male nurse, and as you might expect, I know quite a few gay people. I’m cordial, and work with them without animosity or rancor, but close friends we ain’t!
A couple of them have asked me about this, since I make no secret of the fact that I am a Bible-believing Christian. My answer is “Love the sinner, hate the sin”.
I tell them all that I believe that their sin endangers their eternal soul, but it is not my place to judge them. I tell them that I pray for them, and I do.... but I’m NOT going to be any party to their lifestyle. I will tolerate their choice, but I’ll never approve of it.
Chrstians have spent two thousand years running down the Torah. They didn't think there'd be consequences???
As much as many might hope, and even insist otherwise, The Bible retains its meaning.
Thank God.
I’m not homophobic.
Or adultererphobic or limbergercheesephobic.
I simply find those things not to my liking, at all.
And I’m sick to death of being told to like things I don’t like.
STFU!
Yep. The nastiness of the Gaystapo-backed homo family member is buried out of sight.
We'll hear all day how "gay" teenage kids were "kicked out" onto the streets, when the truth is that nearly all of them rebelled against the reasonable rules of the house and left because the parents wouldn't back down.
Christianity Must Exorcise Itself of Heresy.
It pays to increase your word power. Sometimes, at least.
I appreciate your post. I would make three qualifications:
1) We are to judge, as in discern; we are not to judge, as in condemn. The truth is that all thinking persons judge - and discriminate - in the sense of discerning and choosing.
The left always seeks to pervert words, such as “judge” or “discriminate” - thus making them into intimidating political weapons - while they themselves aggressively judge and discriminate against those they condemn in pursuit of their aims.
2) Some sins are conditional; some are inherent.
Sexual intercourse is not inherently sinful, although adulterous sexual intercourse, for instance, is. God designed sex, and intended it for good.
Homoeroticism, in contrast, is inherently sinful; it is by definition a perversion of God’s design, and cannot be enacted in a God-pleasing way.
3) There is no such thing as homosexuality: There is no valid, verifiable form of sexual reproduction that can take place between two persons of the same sex; so-called homosexuality is inherently dysfunctional.
I therefore instead use the term, homoeroticism: to eroticize physical interaction between two persons of the same sex.
Leftists love to accuse rightists of being anti-science. There are few positions more anti-science than to argue that homosexuality is real.
I took plenty of science courses, and back then, the secular, anti-religious professors loved to condescendingly gloat that all “evolution” cared about was spreading the DNA in the gene pool, and therefore that “love” was a mere illusion to get us to cooperate with sexual reproduction, and that “morality” was a mere social construct to protect one’s own reproductive rights.
To those atheist professors, sex was all and only about getting two fertile persons of the opposite sex who were not too closely related to copulate and reproduce, and that any attendant considerations of emotion or morality were irrelevant.
Some of these same kind of propagandist, leftist professors are now going on about how marriage is not really about heterosexual, reproductive sex but about emotional, satisfying love between two persons of any of a bewildering variety of so-called genders.
The hypocrisy of leftists is truly stunning.
It’s not a phobia. We just think it’s icky, gross, like a slimy snake or creepy insects.
If you worship Paul, I guess.
“Then why not make adultery, blasphemy, pornography, theft, lying and murder OK in the new politically correct Bible.”
Your logic is impeccable. I wonder, though: Is there anywhere in the Bible that murder is called an “abomination?”
Seems to me like God might be more offended by sodomy than any other sin. It’s the only sin called an “abomination.”
“Can we change the word to something like homodislikea or perhaps homodisgustia? Im not afraid of homos, so its not a phobia.”
Back when I posted where libtards are allowed (usenet), I used to call it “The entirely normal aversion that normal people have for perverts.”
It’s long; I know.
“Why this endless, “in your face,” exhibitionism?”
Yes, who could be behind it (so to speak)? Could it be anyone other than the father of lies?
“Homosexuality and all the other disorders around it are mental illness folks.”
Same-sex attraction disorder. SSAD.
Same-old-sex attraction disorder.
