Energy: The EPAs proposal to increase the amount of ethanol that must be blended into gasoline is a trifecta of regulatory abuse. It will do nothing for the environment, it will do nothing for energy security, and it could wreck millions of car engines

Really? Do you know what octane is? Do you know what effect a higher octane rating have on how gasoline burns?
Please explain your claim...
Because the EPA is Nixons worst idea, has become a power-hungry mob of anti-capitalist Gaia worshippers, and cripples the U.S. economy, it should be condemned as a danger to the nation and should be abolished. The states should be in charge of their environmental issues, as the Tenth Amendment intended.
“Ethanol mandates are nothing but a corn subsidy for farmers”
Yes indeedie; it’s made whores out of Midwest farmers and cowards out of congress.
So, is this a situation where wholesalers MUST increase content or just that its OK to do so? If the later I dont see it happening. If no one buys your product then youre out of business. If the former I dont see it continuing. Everyone will be effected even the regulators that imposed the content hike.
I think it comes from a “more expensive must be better” mentality. Most folks don’t understand that that simply isn’t the case with gasoline. As you both noted, unless the engine was designed for high-test (remember that word?), you’re just wasting money.
Not just car engines but damn near every small engine will be ruined.
Darling Donald is down with ethanol.
He told the Iowa voters he supports the ethanol subsidies.
If he supports ethanol subsidies then why would he rein in the EPA ethanol mandate?
Nothing buys votes like subsidies.
Really. Please cite what is wrong with my post.
No, it can’t even do that. The fact that the government needs to be trimmed back 90%, I’d say completely abolish it. They’re a bunch of Eco terrorists.
There are numerous different blends and additives packages put in gas, but generally speaking, 87 octane E10 gasoline is made by blending 84.5 octane gasoline with 10% 110 octane ethanol. So yes, alcohol increase the octane rating of gasoline.
As do non turbo prop aircraft engines — generally speaking.
These posts on octane are funny. Alcohol does indeed raise octane ratings and makes the engine run cooler. Ethanol will affect rubber hoses and gaskets in older engines. The hysteria about alcohol is way overblown. IMHO.

Good old Dick
Dick Nixon before he dicks you
Thanks Iowa. Will you pay my engine repair bills?
Someone needs go down to that place and call in an on my pod air strike.
Why would he have to buy votes?
This is a death sentence to classic cars. Old ATVs, lawn mowers and such will cease to function. Mega farm owning banks will get rich(er).
“pruned back to its original charter”
Actually, it started as the Pollution Control Agency.
This is a distinctive difference which should be pointed out as the conservative approach to eco issues.
The principal that guides me in eco issues is that I value people over nature. The left is the opposite, they value nature over people.
So while I don’t mind controlling pollution because I believe it is generally degrading to quality of life for people, I do not agree that roads/neighborhoods should not be built because it would “harm” the environment.
Here, even if ethanol were effective, the damage done to the public who depend on their transportation takes precedence in my mind.
But the left don’t care about that. If they can impose something they think can help the environment - people be damned. Just like PETA folks value animals more than people.
We need a Mamma Grizzly to set things right.
And soon.
