Engineering and physics professors weigh in on Brady appeal

Nearly two dozen engineering and physics professors weighed in Tuesday with a federal appeals court being asked to review New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady's four-game suspension for ''Deflategate.''

Papers filed with the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals said these experts believe the 2nd Circuit's ruling upholding the suspension lacks any scientific proof and the appeals judges should reconsider an April decision that reinstated Brady's suspension.

The NFL, like any organization, can discipline players but must observe a minimum standard of honesty and fairness.

If the Wells investigation was so "completely fraudulent", then what was the basis for the appellate court overturning the original judge's decision, spite?

Besides, "fraud" in this case is in the eye of the beholder.

The bottom line is, if Goodell made a judgement that Brady committed conduct detrimental to the league, and the owners back him, then that's all the "proof" that's needed. Period. End of story.

Other conduct is more strictly governed by provisions of the NFLPA labor contract, but "conduct detrimental" is under the sole purview of the commissioner's office. Live it. Learn it. Love it.

Furthermore, these cases are not by any means subject to the standard of proof required with criminal law.

So get off your high horse.

I, personally, have read enough to believe of the Wells report, and its endless analysis, to believe that there was an intent to deceive on Brady's part, and, furthermore, that he did not cooperate fully, which clearly added to the impression that he was hiding something.

Additionally, I don't see why Goodell would push things so far regarding Brady if he didn't believe there was something going on. After all, Brady is a big "cash cow" for the NFL.

The Commissioner has every right to impose the punishment that Brady is receiving, based on nothing more than his own judgement. And that's as it should be. FOr whatever reason, Goodell got a "stick up his a--" for Brady, and as long as the owners backed him, that meant tha Brady would ultimately lose the pissing contest.

If the team owners don't like Goodell's judgement, they can replace him. I, for one, applaud the commissioner's firm action.

The Patriots are notorious cheaters. I guess having a reputation for that didn't help, when they were finally so "unfairly" prosecuted.

Cry me a river.

I have three words for you:

Snow Plow Incident

And I assure you that my interest in seeing Tom Brady punished has nothing to do with the fact that he's a Trump supporter, or that I'm a Miami Dolphins fan...

“I have three words for you:

Snow Plow Incident”

So you think Tom Brady should be subject to fraudulent charges and suspended because of the Snow Plow Incident.

I get it. You are so worked up over the Snow Plow Incident that you hate Tom Brady and want to see him suspended based on fraudulent charges.

Read the article. Read what the distinguished scientists say. There was no tampering. The charges are completely fraudulent.

I know decisions are not always fair. Brady is wealthy with a beautiful and successful wife. He will get over this. He will be fine.

Goodell is such a slime ball. He has been unfair to other players too. Adrien Paterson is one example. I hope that the decision is overturned and that Goodell is forced to admit he was dishonest.

Wait, Detective, you don't get it.

With Sargon, the Snow Plow game has been a source of irritation for many decades. The simple fact of the matter is, on that day, and in that game, young Ron Meyers simply out-coached Don Shula, and Miami lost the game.

If what Mark Henderson did was illegal, the league sure didn't respond that way. In fact, the league didn't do anything.

The simple fact of the matter is, the Dolphins (and Shula, for that matter) couldn't have cared less about anything involving the Patriots, as was shown when the Dolphins diligently ran up the score on the way to a 52-0 shellacking. (I won the pool at work that week, thanks to that score.)

They had a great team back in the early 70s who had little trouble dispatching the league's weak sisters during a suspiciously soft schedule. But you can't take anything away from them. They beat whoever the league put in front of them, and that's what you're supposed to do.

But still, it's been 45 years...

CA....

Let me be clear. I believe Brady should be punished because he was tampering with footballs.

I didn't raise this accusation. Players from multiple other teams did, and the text messages that I've seen support the notion that something was going on.

Combine that with Tom Brady's lack of cooperation, and the fact that the owners have stood firmly behind Goodell's decision, and, like I said, Brady will lose this pissing contest every time.

And the only reason I cited the Snow Plow Incident is to place it in the historical pantheon of Patriot cheating. It was one of the earliest incidents, but there was at least one other one that occurred before deflate-gate.

Against that backdrop, I have no problem with Goodell's conclusion, and indeed I'm highly skeptical that there was "nothing to see here, folks". If that were really the case, the owners would have directed Goodell to be more lenient long ago.

Again, I ask: what is the benefit of the NFL owners, through the commissioners office, going on a "witch hunt", if there was nothing there?

The league obviously concluded otherwise, and so did the appellate panel of judges, albeit not unanimously, determine that the commissioner was entirely within his rights to impose the suspension.

So you can argue that the suspension wasn't fair, or wasn't based on the facts of the case, but I don't see how anyone can argue that the commissioner doesn't have the near-absolute right to discipline employees. That's socialist nonsense.

Vote Trump, like Tom Brady!

“I believe Brady should be punished because he was tampering with footballs.”

Read the article. Read what the distinguished scientists said. THERE WAS NO TAMPERING. That is the whole point.

All the other stuff is just false information and innuendo that was produced by Goodell and the NFL. Goodell and the NFL were fraudulent and dishonest. Hopefully a majority of the appeals judges will realize it and overturn the decision.

Read what the distinguished scientists said.

Did the "distinguish scientists" have any comment on the incriminating text messages?

Did the "distinguish scientists" tell the numerous players who were complaining that they were full of it?

The "distinguished scientists" are only qualified to give their opinion on a very narrow issue, not the overall one.

"Distinguished scientists" have given us global warming propaganda...

The Referees should be in charge of them, shouldn’t they?

After EVERY play, the officials take possession of the balls.......So who's REALLY at fault?

“Distinguished scientists” have given us global warming propaganda”

No they have not.

Global Warming propaganda comes from politicians like Al Gore and the media. There are also a few media types like Bill Nye who promote the fraudulent cause.

There is not a single reputable scientist who supports the global warming fraud pushed by the politicians.

The text messages were taken out of context to falsely portray what did not happen. That was part of the fraudulent Wells report. There is not a single text message that proves anything.

The so called “very narrow issue” is the entire case. There was no tampering. The accusations of tampering were false.

Well, James Hansen said it, he’s a scientist, he’s held noteworthy positions in the scientific community and received heaps of awards and accolades, so I think it’s quite fair to call him a “distinguished scientist”.

“Well, James Hansen said it, he’s a scientist”

James Hansen was a government bureaucrat and activist with a political agenda. His writings were all were political and mostly fraudulent. He has been exposed as a fraud. He was never a respected scientist.

There is not a single reputable scientist who supports the global warming fraud pushed by the politicians.

So, the reputable scientists are supporting some other global warming fraud?

C'mon, man, it's clear that there are, for whatever reasons, at least some reputable scientists who believe in anthropogenic global warming.

To say that "there is not a single reputable scientist" so cavalierly simply makes me start doubting your assertions about deflate-gate even more.

Now, I came clean on my favorite team. What is your favorite NFL team?

Those text messages, by the way, are incriminating both in and out of their context.

I'm beginning to think that you're just a die-hard Pats fan, as opposed to some disinterested analyst of the truth.

People like Brady think their sh-- don't stink. I firmly believe Brady tried to get away with something, even if he failed, and even if the "science" didn't add up.

There are too many of his fellow players who insist that something was up. The Patriots think that they're above the rules, and have repeatedly shown a tendency to, shall we say diplomatically, "bend" them.

The NFL isn't the WWE, and the game needs to have a higher level of integrity.

I note that you've had little to say regarding the appellate court's reversal. Since you're such an expert on this "inflate-gate" drama, why don't you summarize to me why the appellate coiurt's ruling was so incorrect, or at least what reasoning it used to overturn the lower court judge's decision. Because they did overturn it (with a majority decision, which is all that's required in any court).

James Hansen is a political activists. His climate forecasts have always been wrong.

“James Hansen, for instance, who headed NASA’s Goddard Institute for three decades before taking a post at Columbia University, is one of the best known “climatologists” in the world — despite his long and embarrassing record of bad forecasting spanning decades.

In 1988, Hansen was asked by journalist and author Rob Reiss how the “greenhouse effect” would affect the neighborhood outside his window within 20 years (by 2008). “The West Side Highway [which runs along the Hudson River] will be under water,” Hansen claimed. “And there will be tape across the windows across the street because of high winds. And the same birds won’t be there. The trees in the median strip will change.... There will be more police cars … [since] you know what happens to crime when the heat goes up.” In 1986, Hansen also predicted in congressional testimony that the Earth would be some two degrees warmer within 20 years. In recent years, after the anticipated warming failed to materialize, alarmists have cooled on predicting such a dramatic jump in temperature over such a short period of time.”

“James Hansen is a political activists”

I won’t deny it, but he is still considered a “distinguished scientist” as well, which is basically my point. The fact that scientists accept such men as him into their community, appoint them to lofty positions and laud them with accolades dilutes the reputation of all “distinguished scientists”.

Because they did overturn it (with a majority decision, which is all that’s required in any court).”

To overturn an arbitration award requires an extremely high level of evidence of egregious fraud and wrongdoing.

Of the three judges, one agreed with the initial judge and said there was an extremely high level of dishonesty by Goodell and the NFL. The other two essentially said that even if there were a high level of dishonesty it did not matter. The arbitration decision should still stand. None of the judges said Brady was guilty of any of the charges.

You should learn more about global warming fraud and the dishonesty involved. Global warming is spread by politicians and the media. People like Bill Nye the science guy are occasionally brought out to support it.

All the talk about the scientific community supporting the idea of Al Gores global warming scenario is simply false.

Whenever there is grant money available there will be people telling politicians what they want to hear. But these people have been consistently wrong.

Name a reputable scientist who supports the Al Gore global warming scenario.

You hate Brady and the Patriots. I get that. You are still upset about the Snow Plow Incident. I understand that. But you do not understand science and you do not understand football.

He is only considered a distinguished scientist by the politicians and the media. His climate predictions have all been wrong. Embarrassingly wrong. He is not respected in his field. He is only supported by dishonest politicians and the dishonest media which portray him as important.
