The Republican Party is racing to build a presidential campaign for Donald Trump.
The presumptive GOP nominee enters the general election with an organization even thinner than Mitt Romney's four years ago. Trump won the primary by dominating media coverage. He didn't bother to develop a ground game or data analytics program, believing those modern tools overrated.
The Republican National Committee is filling the void.
The party invested more than $100 million, and counting, since 2012 to construct and refine cutting edge voter turnout and digital operations after being outclassed by President Obama. The plan was to create a turnkey operation for the 2016 nominee that could compete with the Democrats.

The GOP largely succeeded. Yet, despite their advances, the Republicans still find themselves where they didn't want to be (again) at this point in a presidential campaign: Behind.
That's in part because the Trump campaign brings little to the table in the way of field staff and data analysis and because likely Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton started ramping up on both fronts more than a year ago.

Obama had one of the best ground games of recent campaigns.
There have been a number of really good articles on it (can’t copy and paste links from my phone, but they can be googled) and the underlying data systems (Narwal and Catalist) that go into frightening detail on just how good they were. While Romney’s system (ORCA) crashed and burned on Election Day, helping to cost him the presidency.
Trump is playing to win, something Republicans just don’t do. I think he knows the RNC is a bunch of losers and will deal with the accordingly. He’s outsmarted everyone else thus far.
Of course. He overwhelmingly won votes of the minorities, the women, and the dead.
"We promise our greatest GOPe minds at work in leading Mr. Trump to glorious victory!"
The RNC doesn’t care if Trump wins or loses, but they do care about skimming off some of the cash that flows into and out of the Trump campaign.

Yes, an incredible ground game. He crushed Rommney.
I agree, it’s much ado about nothing. Who cares how many thousands of people Hillary has on her staff for the ground game. The election is in November, not June. What are all of these staff people for? Oh, I forgot, this is the Democrats you speak of. They need do nothing jobs right now. No one (Democrat or Republican) is going door to door getting out the vote in May...
Oh, one other thing, if this is the sign of the vaunted Hillary machine where she can’t put away an old curmudgeon socialist like Bernie Sanders, then I say that’s not much of a machine...
Not true in my county. The delegates appeared as: "John Doe (Candidate)"
Now they can stop pretending they are against him.
OK. I stand corrected.
Ping!

Uh huh. Right.
It’s a trick.
” Its my belief that the RNC would prefer that Trump lose.”
100%
What would you do if you were Trump in this situation?
Seems to me *he’s* the one who has to seek the loyalty oath, but the trustworthiness of the RNC in this regard isn’t even zero. I think they would be far more likely to be saboteurs. I really don’t know how I would handle this in Trump’s place. I think I would have to set up a series of tests. And I would insist on firing Rove. (That would be one of the tests) They don’t go for it, the cat is out of the bag. I seriously think this is a Trojan horse. Or a chess gambit.
If I were Trump, I would lead them to believe they were helping, but I would have my own people make all final decisions. The RNC brass is voting for Hillary.
Not enough. They would be privy to strategy, they would leak it, they would claim insider status and make up BS they’d claim that Trump said. Or they would resign for random reasons strictly to create the impression that the Trump campaign was in full chaos.
We are talking about people who face the prospect of losing $300K - $2 million - $5 million gigs and who have been warned that “they’ll never work in this town again” should they back Trump. Well, if they could take credit for torpedoing Trump, they could. That’s what IMO they would do. They’d strangle their mothers. And their fathers. Hell, they’d strangle their children. These are people who are not just suckups and traitors, they’re proud of being suckups and traitors.
Is this the same multi-million dollar GOTV program they developed in ‘12 that crashed on election day? That one?
