Someone in the cockpit reported smoke coming from the bathroom. Seems odd to report anything if it was a suicide.

Maybe reported by someone in the cockpit unaware of the intentions of the pilot?

It was not someone in the cockpit that reported smoke. It was sensors that automatically reported smoke
and a breach of cockpit window

But this was far from a normal suicide. He took 60 plus souls with him. Perhaps he was providing liability cover for Egypt Air. This way they can say it was an accident, not the company fault for hiring and employing a rabid Islamist.

They need to radio back the black box data in a similar fashion, continuously, and then recovery of the actual black boxes would not be necessary.
