Nick Menza, who played on many of Megadeths most successful albums, died after he collapsed on stage during a show. He was 51.
Menza was into the third song with his new band Ohm when he collapsed late Saturday night, said Ohms manager Steve Bauer. Paramedics couldnt revive him.
The band was playing at The Baked Potato, in Studio City, California.
The groups bassist texted me last night after it happened, Bauer told CNN. We are all still in shock.
Officials havent released a cause of death.
Alongside Metallica, Slayer and Anthrax, Megadeth makes up metals Big Four. And for nine years in the early 1990s, Menza played on the bands biggest releases: Rust in Peace, Countdown to Extinction, and Youthanasia.

Civilization was declining before. True but I’d only take it back to the jazz age for this country.
Do you get a refund on your concert ticket when one of the band up and dies on you? (yeah, I know- That’s COLD!)
“He replaced the drummer for Ohm that died of heart attack last year...2 drummers in 2 years.....”
Life imitates art, see Spinal Tap
Dave Mustaine is awake. He took he red pill a long time ago.
Eighties Metal didn't do much of anything to society and culture, one way or the other. But rap/hip hop sure did.
While Spinal Tap did go through more than their share of drummers, each died by purely accidental flukes. One or two spontaneously combusted during live performances. Another passed-out and choked to death on vomit (but it was somebody else’s).
What about Judas Priest and Black Sabbath?
Was John Lee Hooker derided because he was too old to play the blues?
Ohm, Mani, Padma, Hum?
Good point. That big four thing was normally about thrash metal, or at least that’s how we used it. Sabbath, or at least the first 6 Sabbath albums or so, influenced most types of really heavy music that came later in my opinion, not just metal, but stoner rock and doom. For sure the big four were all Sabbath fans.

Are you kidding? It was worse then in a lot of ways.
Amen, Ben
Maybe they’re talking about total album sales or top 10 hits or something.
And what about Mötley Crüe?
RIP.
Particularly in light of the fact that the last Megadeth album he performed on was released in 1997.
This also makes for two former Megadeth drummers who have died now. Gar Samuelson died in 1999.
