Megyn Kelly’s much-publicized broadcast special with Donald Trump was supposed to launch the Fox News star into the stratosphere of television anchordom. Instead, the widely panned show seems to have achieved the opposite result: It exposed the extent of her limited mainstream appeal. Kelly drew just 4.8 million viewers on Tuesday night, a number television executives say is a disappointment by any measure. Three senior executives I spoke with say an audience of 9 million would have been a success. "Not good for her at all," was how one insider put it.
In the days since, Kelly has been working to contain the fallout. She took aim at critics on her cable show Wednesday night by deploying an age-old Fox News tactic: claiming the backlash was a result of liberal media bias. But behind the scenes, she is said to be worried about the response. “She’s very upset with the show reaction, and in hindsight with how it was produced,” one Fox veteran told me.
The stakes for Kelly are high. As the Times recently reported, she’s in the final year of her contract and has been on a media blitz campaigning for a bigger job at Fox or another network. In recent interviews, she’s said her ambition is to be a combination of Oprah, Charlie Rose, and Barbara Walters. The special was essentially a public interview for her next job. But Kelly's chummy treatment of Trump may have damaged her brand as tough and fair-minded (this being Fox, the bar was pretty low). Worse, she cozied up to Trump at the very moment Rupert Murdoch decided Fox News will support the GOP front-runner. By lobbing softballs — or, as Times TV critic James Poniewozik described her questions, "airballs" — at Trump, Kelly came across like any other GOP cheerleader at the right-wing network.
The question for Kelly and her agents at CAA is where to go from here. Before the special, she had maneuvered herself into a position of significant leverage over her boss Roger Ailes and seemed poised to land either a new deal from Fox with a salary in the $25 million range or a plum job at another network. Industry sources said Ailes couldn’t afford to lose Kelly. Now her advantage looks smaller — a turn of events that surely pleases Ailes. According to one Fox insider, Ailes was heard “snickering” in a meeting yesterday when the topic of Kelly’s special came up in conversation. (Ailes's spokesperson Irena Briganti did not respond to a request for comment.)
For their part, Kelly's team doesn't seem eager to talk about the program. When I called her CAA agent Matt DelPiano to ask him about the special, he hung up.
It seems to me, she might need to just go full-throttle leftist, and jump ship to another network. I used to watch her, but stopped. She annoys me now.

Greg can’t get over Trump’s winning, and Hayes has taken the elitist role in his dislike for Trump. along with Krauthammer and Will.. the old elite that had their club... all ugly at the thought of losing their position to a non member ... Trump... and The Donald could put them to shame in wealth. He can send his plane to gather up some military stranded by our government... and I like that kind of wealth and shutzpa!
Greta seems to be somewhat friendly towards Trump... so does O’Reilly... as much as his better self can... and Eric and Kimberly aren’t afraid to speak out in Trump’s favor.
Trump is a new breed to come on the scene... he makes the old guard OLD and out of sync with the people. He has a magnet personality... rich and famous.. and not afraid to flaunt it... it overpowers the crowds... and I expect dems will vote for him... all races want jobs and are tired of the status quo.. except some of the younguns who think they can get free for nothing and vote for bernie.
Normally, I beat up non-stop on Megyn Kelly, because the ego inflated woman took the advice of “FOX” management to attempt to sink Donald Trump at the first GOP POTUS debate. And. both Bret & Brit went with, and also have demeaned themselves badly!!! Worst advice she & they ever took. Now....I look at her a bit differently, because it took a good dose of courage to prance into the Trump Tower and kiss the ring of “The Donald”, and try to apoligize and make nice!!! No matter how you feel about her...you have got to admire her for that!!!
Now......instead of wiping up the floor with her.....let me give her a few tidbits, how to renew herself to simply her old self....when she had a great afternoon show on FNC. First, she has to become a full Trumpette and she has to get rid of the two gents she uses to bash & beat on DJT. The two complete idiots Stirewalt & Marc, have not gotten one thing right....and, they certainly do her no good whatsoever. DJT is going to win th POTUS election in a landslide and take down a good portion of the Democrat Party doing that!!! Hillary Clinton is a super weak and totally flawed POTUS candidate. She is more suited to be a “Walmart Greeting Lady”!!!
So....wake up Megyn, restore yourself to your original stature, and you will retain your spot on FNC. Stay as you are and you will become the Ashley Banfield of Fox News Network!!!
I have taken to DVRing Stuart Varney during the day and watching him at 9 pm (it’s about 50% commercials, so I can zip right through). My power was out the other day, so I missed recording Varney. Watched ME-Gyn for a few minutes - first time in two months. Same old, same old. She repeatedly interrupted the conservative and let the lib guest prattle on.
As long as I don’t get carpal tunnel from mashing the FF button on my remote to zip thru Varney’s ads, I won’t be watching ME-Gyn again. Maybe she’ll get a new gig at CBS which will guarantee her obscurity.
First Trump moved into her head rent free. Then she cut her hair (probably did it herself)and now all the overcompensation to please Trump and his supporters. She’s like the crazy girlfriend you can’t get rid of.
