The late Margaret Thatcher, former Conservative Party prime minister of Great Britain, once remarked that socialism works pretty well, until you run out of other peoples money.
Burlington College in Vermont was not a socialist, or state-run institution, but it was led until recently by Dr. Jane O'Meara Sanders (shown), the wife of avowed socialist Senator Bernie Sanders. It was announced this week that it will close its doors on May 27.
Burlington has apparently run out of other peoples money.
The financial woes of the small, private college developed from the real estate deal that Dr. Sanders talked the board into making while serving as its president from 2004 to 2011. She persuaded the board to enter into $10 million of debt in the form of bonds and loans to obtain what has been described as expensive lakefront property. The land and buildings were purchased from the Roman Catholic Diocese of Burlington, in an apparent effort to attract more students to the campus, and more donors to its treasury. The school closes with less than 250 students.

Jane Sanders husband, presidential candidate Bernie Sanders, has offered a higher-education plan that would make tuition at public colleges free. But it would do little to prod colleges, public or private, to keep costs down or ensure that a college degree is worthwhile for graduates.
Jane Sanders, who led Burlington College from 2004 to 2011, spent millions on a new campus 33 acres along the bank of Lake Champlain to attract more students and donations from alumni. It didnt work: The college failed to recruit enough students or donations to repay its debts and even came close to losing its accreditation. What happened at Sanders U. When Bernie Sanders' wife was in charge of small, private Burlington College in Vermont, it sank into debt.
Maybe she should have gone to Trump University.
The problem is that tuition was >$0....
How much did they pocket?
This has the smell of David Brock all over it - if Sanders says he’s going all the way to the convention, Herman Cain him. If Sanders won’t listen to Hillary when she tells him to drop out her flying monkeys will target all the people around him until he finally understands.
from what is described it sounds like an institution that teaches kids how to be good little commies.
When she ran the place they “invested” $5,000,000.00 in land...in order to expand. I guess this socialist LIB idiot took expansion backwards. Most likely she escaped with some sort of golden parachute or pension. Socialists really are idiots.
They will say it is one of her great successes too.
I don’t doubt she would have been a corrupt commie running the school, but I see other people must be behind the scenes using it to send a message to Sanders. She might think twice about this because, as I see it, Sanders as VP is her only hope and if screws with him too much he won’t even join her for the sake of the commie cause.
The killer was a case of real estate speculation creating a debt that recruiting couldn’t cover. Perhaps she should have given Donald Trump a call for advice.
I’ll bet she made a good income. Socialist leaders usually do live quite well. Does she have a fat pension?
The killer was the incompetence and fraudulent practices of Sander's wife. A university should not be involved in speculation or other questionable practices.
Are the dems in a "checkmate" situation? If they don't follow through with hillary, they have to hand it to Sanders, or lose the anti-insider vote to Trump. If it's hillary, is anyone really going to want to vote for an Enabler-in-Chief, who besides that is to a great deal responsible for terrorist chaos in the Middle East? It will be real hard to find a VP besides Sanders who will appease the Sanders supporters, I'd think.
Since this disgrace can’t be laid at the foot of Hitlery, it doesn’t do us much good.
Who was the R/E agent? I bet they made out ok.
And the professors and staff all work for free, right?
I never heard of this school before this week.
