Doctors routinely ask if you smoke, and counsel you to wear your seat belt when youre in a car. Technically, either behavior isnt any of their business, but they do fall under the umbrella of preventive care.
Now Dr. Garen Wintemute, director of the violence prevention research program at the University of California Davis, and his colleagues want to add firearms to the office visit for similar reasons.
First, he says that no federal or state laws prevent doctors from asking their patients about whether they have guns in the home.

“.......no federal or state laws prevent doctors from asking their patients about whether they have guns in the home.”
Recently was reinstating my VA, and was asked about depression, suicidal thoughts, and whether I had guns, or not.
As the above, no federal or state laws that I know of prevent me from the answer I gave. NO!
I was nice, and didn’t tell the VA nurse interviewer it was none of his business. I just said NO!
I do not discuss my personal security needs with non immediate family members.
I would then start asking the doctor about how many iatrogenic deaths they had caused. And then start asking for details.
I think that would pretty much end my relationship with the doctor right there.
I don’t ask you about the shots you give out.
about 10 years ago at my annual physical, my doc asked me if “there were guns in the house”. He was a heck of a doc, and I had tons of respect for him (he’s since retired).
I was surprised as this was early on in the PC era and also a question he never asked me before in the physical.
My answer - “ none of your F’n business!”
He never asked me again.
Landlords cant ask if you are a felon.
Police cant ask if youre an illegal alien.
Cant force voters to show a govt id to vote.
Schools wont tell parents if they give their kids birth control.
But docs can ask if you have guns and follow up questions to try to get your guns taken away - unlawfully.
This is liberal America logic at its best.
Do you ask your doctor if he’s touched HIV+ patients in the last 48 hours?
Does he have sex with men?
Did he vote democrat in the last election?
Oh... Are those questions private and personal and none of your business even thought they’re directly related to your health and the quality of care you’re receiving?
Imagine that.
I see we are in agreement on this one. See my #12.

“”Just say NO”
During an appointment I asked if he would sign two copies of the letter (one for backup in case the authorities conveniently lost one). He glanced at it, said, "I don't recall ever signing one of these before.", and put his scrawl on both copies for me. Nothing to it.
I was quite happy it didn't become an issue.
Kaiser has been asking for about 5 years, they also ask what race do you consider yourself. It is always tempting to say asian (blonde, blue eyed, obviously northern european) but I don’t think I could say without laughing.
Tell him you have 200 firearms and 50,000 rounds of ammo............ and see who shows at your door.
Two things should be noted in that scenario:
(1) It had no governmental involvement, and
(2) the “we” indicates that it was family taking care of her, not the doctor.
Exactly so.
And the ONLY sort of scenario where I would not reply “It’s none of your F$%ing business!”
My response to a doctor asking me that question— When did you stop beating your wife?
In other words, NONE OF YOUR GODDAMN BUSINESS.
"Everybody has underwear at home, but we don't talk about that with strangers."
“One thing ALL liberals have in common is that they’re incredible busybodies. Knowing everything about everybody makes everybody easier to control. “
Perfect description!! Personally, I would change physicians if he ever ventured into ANY non-medical areas. When I visit the doctor I make it a practice to never engage in chit-chat, because you can’t be sure that what you say, doesn’t get put in your medical record. With today’s medical recordkeeping system, you can be assured that the government gets copied on absolutely everything the medical profession gleans from their Q&A. Medical recordkeeping today often takes precidence over treatment.
My answer to that race question is always MUTT.
“I thought that there was a part of Odungocare that prevent docs from asking.....”
Yeah, just like “you can keep your doctor if you like your doctor!” Honesty isn’t a strong suit with Obola & Co.
When any of our doctors ask this question, our response is “How many guns do you own and what kind”...this immediately sorts out patriots vs. liberal gungrabbers.
You have a very accurate read on things.............
