Mostly agree - the Gub'mint had to put more effort into destroying the social fabric of the modern South due to its strong martial and Biblical heritage.
I think the North was "ripe for the picking" - just look, for instance at the ease oppressive gun-control laws are enacted in the North. And lots of empty (and emptying) churches up here, not so much down South.
