Cruz shuns Trump, GOP unity; says 'challenges' may lie ahead
Chicago Tribune ^ | 05/14/2016 | Tribune News Service

Ted Cruz on Saturday used his first speech since dropping out of the presidential race not to endorse Donald Trump or urge Republican unity behind him, but to maintain that core conservatives can save America.

Trump, the presumptive GOP presidential nominee, countered by deploying a top surrogate who did his best to woo skeptical Texas conservatives. Addressing thousands of cheering delegates at the Texas Republican Convention, many of whom climbed to their feet and waved red-white-and-blue "Thank You Ted!" signs, Cruz repeated some of the same promises from his defunct White House campaign, like abolishing the IRS.

"People ask, 'Are you disappointed?' Of course you're disappointed," Cruz said. But he also insisted he remains optimistic about American conservatism. "That movement is far more important than any one campaign, far more important than one candidate," Cruz said. "We may face some challenges ahead, but I am convinced that movement, the men and women gathered here, will be the remnant, will be the core of the movement pulling this country back from the abyss."

You are now the new GOP establishment.

The new GOP establishment is disestablishmentarianist.

You may be using sarcasm but to me, Cruz is indicative of one who has won a lot of participation trophies when young......."everybody's a winner, no one loses!"

He can't handle losing graciously.

I think that he is being a typical politician and trying to milk his anti-trump campaign as long as he can. So the news media can type out articles like “Shunning” and “Against Unity”.
At the end of the day, he will come around like everyone else will around Trump as the republican candidate and IMHO, everything right now is posturing.

I was and am a proud GW Bush supporter. I campaigned for him both in 2000 and 2004 and I did not care for all of his policies but I thought and still think he is a patriotic and decent American who loved his country and did what he thought was best for America.
It is sad that so many here are so negative of him but I have a feeling in a few years, we will see negative similar feelings about Mr Trump after he gets into office and shows where he lies on the various issues that conservatives care about.
I feel that based on Mr Trump’s past, and past actions ALMOST ALWAYS denote future behaviors, that he will govern as a center-left politician.
Having said that, I have been here for over 16 years and so far this election season, have not had anything negative said towards me though I am disappointed in the comments against anyone who brings up doubt or questions against Mr Trump.
Also, I remember very clearly that quite a few posters on here were against Mr Romney and they were clearly allowed to post their comments and what not. I think Mr Robinson has been very fair throughout the overall process minus a few “online” miscreants..:)

Why are you here trashing Trump? Why not go to a more liberal or crazy site that fits better with your trash talk?

So Texas delegates fly or drive 3-9 hours to Dallas and they can’t be
bothered to listen to Senator Sessions address them.

Typical of the convention event after 3 or more days involved with the conference.

‘But, no complaints and no questions? What country operates like that?’

There were eight-plus mos for asking questions and voicing complaints. Cruz supporters used every second of it. The things I read on this site about Trump surpasses all belief. There were not, to be perfectly frank, a whole lot of questions. The complaints flew like snow in a blizzard. But mostly it was smears, lies and insults. That was the bulk of it.

Speaking of lies, you can’t imagine what it was like trying to correct them. You’d be very polite, and go into painstaking detail to document the lie. You get insults and aggression for your trouble—and the lie would continue to be propagated.

Despite it all Trump prevailed. That being so, now is the time to do everything humanly possible to stop the Dem, be it Hillary or otherwise. Four more years of militant, radical liberalism will kill all that is left of the US that was good and great. There will be no going back. The demographics plus the SC makeup will prohibit reversal. This is our last chance. Unite to defeat the Dem, or kiss it all goodbye.

Ted never played sports as a kid.

Never put his heart, body, & soul on the line.

He’s never heard a gracious acceptance speech in winning or defeat.

He doesn’t get it.

And then there’s his father. And Oswald. ;-) ;-). And JFK? Why DID Cruz announce “YOU B@STARD” and then immediately suspend his campaign when Trump brought it up? And the blogger dead.

It appears you weren’t anointed after all.

He would have done better for himself, the party, and the country, if he had gone into seclusion for a few weeks to deal with the upset of losing.

I agree.

BOL!

Just when we'd FINALLY struck a good balance between devotion to global commerce and lipservice to "traditional values," Trump comes along!

Pass the popcorn and our favorite adult beverage of daytime use. (Save the wine or beer for evening enjoyment!).
