Back around 1974, I was managing Mitchell Hall at Lackland AFB. I happened to see a paperback book in the trash can. It was a biography of Chesty Puller.
Reading it one could not help but wonder how the guy made it through all those combat situations. He was lucky to have survived Haiti.
One time he caught Omar Bradley fixing a match between Marine shooters and Army ones. Puller noticed the Marines groups were tight but missed the target. The Army shooters were all over the place but they had more in the bulls eye.
Puller figured out that they had given the wrong range which actually made the better marksmen miss. Bradley had argued against spending the time and money on marksmanship training.
Good evening, yarddog...so many campaigns for him. It IS amazing that he survived them all.
