A transgender woman claims she was escorted out of a public North Carolina restroom by security – but surveillance video shows it might not have happened.
Alexis Adams told WTVD last week that she was “humiliated beyond belief” and “bystanders were stunned” as security escorted her out of the Transit Center Thursday.
“I couldn’t think. I couldn’t speak. I was speechless,” she said. “It was embarrassing. I was outed in front of everybody.”
The Durham woman said she wanted to make a statement by going into a woman’s restroom and snapping a selfie in the mirror.
She said a custodian confronted her when she came out of the stall and she was escorted out.
The city of Durham owns the Transit Center and recently released surveillance footage of the alleged incident after the original story was aired.
Adams can be seen in the video entering the public bathroom alone. About four minutes later, a custodian enters. Shortly later, Adams can be seen leaving the restroom by herself.
The video does not show whether or not the custodian said anything to Adams.
WTVD showed Adams the video footage and she is sticking by her story. “You had to be there to witness it,” she said.
Adams was born a male and transitioned to a female five years ago.
Gov. Pat McCrory signed House Bill 2, called the Public Facilities Privacy & Security Act, more than a month ago after it was passed by the North Carolina Senate.
The bill makes transgender people use the bathrooms that correspond to the gender on their birth certification.

See, now that was my first thought as well. I mean, I go into the bathroom to use it, not to “make a statement”.
And really, if I saw someone waving a cell phone/camera around in the bathroom I would tell them to get lost also.
We have to start thinking of this along the lines of concealed carry for guns.
If you conceal your gun properly, no one knows whether or not you have it on you.
If you are 90 pounds and wear a tight fitting shirt and strap a 45 to your hip - under the shirt - it will bulge.
Guarantee 90% of us can and probably won’t dress according to the opposite of ones equipment and go strolling into a ladies or mens. Only hangup may be a she in a he may attract a little attention by standing at a urinal BUT any red blooded STRAIGHT guy knows good toilet etiquette (whether you can spell etiquette or know what it means or not) that a HE does not speak while at the altar of relievement AND eyes are straight (no pun intended) ahead UNLESS, you look so freakish that one may ‘take a peek’ but that is in rare circumstances.
(An occasional grunt - in the direction of a KNOWN user - is sometimes acceptable)
A good example is like at a ‘couples’ at a restaurant. The ‘shes’ of the group may all excuse themselves and go to the ‘facilities’ together BUT if two ‘hes’ depart, knowingly, at the same time, snickers are in order.
Back to the concealed gun, if I go to your restaurant or whatever and you have as sign with a /gun/ you are telling ME that I am not welcome.
However, if the SHTF and some ‘bad guy/gal’ starts shooting the place up and I put an end to their festivities, are you going to arrest me or comp my meal because I - for one split second - forced the blinders of your mutton head and saved your ‘sorry arse’ (Actually I was saving mine, not you short sighted idiots.
So if you go the the he and are a she, use a stall and no one will know the difference.

If you go to the she and are a he, use a stall and remember if you are looking for a whitish looking thing hanging off the wall, don’t tell the establishment they are discriminating you.
Now everyone go home, get dressed as you please, go to the can where you please but always remember if my 10 year old granddaughter is in the ‘ladies’ and you come out with your dress on and needing a shave, you may be subjecting yourself to a problem.
Of course, in BO’s world establishments will be required to HIRE bathroom attendants to make sure the wrong equipment isn’t flashed around???
LADIES, in my day, we were conditioned to not speak to strangers, which carried over to NO SPEAKING in the head or loo, eyes forward AND, as an afterthought...
Very seldom will a man tell another man that a button isn’t buttoned or a fly isn’t zipped because the immediate response to passing that information will more than likely be...”WTF are you looking down there for”

Precisely right. That’s why I don’t believe the fairytale liberals keep telling about transgenders “quietly” having used the ladies’ rooms for years. Ever see a transgender? They don’t do ANYTHING quietly. It is all about drawing attention to themselves.
