The historical legal justification was that women could not serve in combat units. That was affirmed by the supreme court, IIRC.

I agree with that completely...women should be drafted to do the maintenance, administrative and medical jobs, freeing more men for combat...but they should IN NO OTHER WAY be exempted from service any more than men.

Consider that being drafted as a man then becomes automatic assignment to combat, as opposed to the hope of getting a non-combat billet.

Under current interpretations of equality, that would itself be discriminatory.

And, the change to the combat integration plan for the military means that the explicit reason for the female draft exemption has been removed.

The main issue I have is that the feminists want to be able to do everything, but do not want to be forced to do it like men. Yes, it is madness to put women in combat IMO, but it is also madness to pretend that women are exactly equal only when it benefits the women over the men.
