‘Progressive economics strikes again!’ Wendy’s proves that the real minimum wage is actually $0.00

Remember when conservatives dared to suggest that raising the minimum wage for fast-food workers to $15.00/hour would force businesses to cut staff and would hasten the replacement of those workers with automated systems?

Well, Wendy’s just proved us right and announced that they’re rolling out self-service kiosks “nationwide” to their 6000 stores later this year:

And once kiosks are in place, those jobs are never coming back. From Investor’s Business Daily:

Wendy’s Penegor said company-operated stores, only about 10% of the total, are seeing wage inflation of 5% to 6%, driven both by the minimum wage and some by the need to offer a competitive wage “to access good labor.”

It’s not surprising that some franchisees might face more of a labor-cost squeeze than company restaurants. All 258 Wendy’s restaurants in California, where the minimum wage rose to $10 an hour this year and will gradually rise to $15, are franchise-operated. Likewise, about 75% of 200-plus restaurants in New York are run by franchisees. New York’s fast-food industry wage rose to $10.50 in New York City and $9.75 in the rest of the state at the start of 2016, also on the way to $15.

This will eventually happen at every fast-food restaurant in America thanks to even the threat of a minimum wage hike. Great job, Dems!

OK, I like to think I’m not an idiot, but I recently used one of these machines at a Sheetz convenience store.

I ordered a breakfast muffin sandwich with a side of hash browns. The sandwich arrived with the hash browns ON the sandwich. The clerk kept insisting I had ordered it that way. If I did those touch-screens were really SCROOOOD UP!

$12 an hour, 35 hours a week is $420. It's a living wage for folks who find an inexpensive but safe neighborhood, depend on public transportation, make excellent nutritional and lifestyle choices. Keep in mind that the person would pay next to no taxes and probably have some small benefits from work and probably some overtime opportunities. It's enough to "cut the chord" from being dependent on the gov.

Consider that is $21,840 a year. Many senior citizens are living on that amount or less.....without any government handouts.

I hope those machines are more intuitive than my car voice recognition system. I’m getting sick and tired of hearing, “pardon?”

A well run and happy store is always headed by competent and no-nonsense managers.

Unions are nothing if not the ultimate Luddites. With the introduction of self-service, we may see massive acts of vandalism by unions and their flunkies, destroying the kiosks. This national tantrum will, of course, further raise the company’s cost of doing business, but may also harden the public’s negative perception of unions and their agenda of destroying capitalism.

So we're paying big taxpayer bucks to put Harriet Tubman on the $20 bill WHY, exactly?

There is no cure for stupid. Remember the small dollar coins? Two of them with ugly women on them.

Agreed. But that would mean that everyone would be required to carry a means of paying electronically.

Never heard of ObamaPhones or EBT cards?
