On the right, weve grown to pride ourselves on our greater openness to debate and ideas, on having no need to toe a Politically Correct line or crawl into a safe space like pampered college kids who just cant handle hearing from anyone who disagrees with them.
For myself, I am so personally dedicated to this ideal that I even perform the great personal sacrifice of reading the comments field beneath my articles.
Yet somehow I wasnt surprised to see Donald Trump supporters, those swaggering tough guys, turn one of their favorite Internet forums into a safe space where they no longer need to encounter criticism or opposition. Earlier today, Free Republic proprietor Jim Robinson announced that the discussion board would no longer tolerate opposition to Trumps candidacy.

My sons, and now my grandkids always managed to push the envelope to see just how far it would bend before the Wrath of God fell.
Just sayin’
Bumping some interesting data!
I would guess that more members of the class of ‘98 have died of old age than have been zotted. That is 18 years, after all.
Very, VERY well said.
That is a record opus.
Re: “Oh, really?... your proof?”
An excellent memory, and I’ve been here for all five elections, but I had a different screen name in 2000.
Jim R. has the archives. Why not ask him if it happened before?
I would have to say, your forum, your call.
It would be a completely different matter if liberals (and #NeverTrumpers) really believed in free speech.
Now Tracinski should tell us why we should accord them a privilege they wouldn’t accord us if the tables were turned.
FR is not guilty of hypocrisy; its just playing by the rules the other side instituted.
If they ever decide to revisit it and get rid of their so-called safe spaces, then I think it would be appropriate for FR to follow suit.
I wouldn’t hold my breath waiting for that to happen. They can say what they like but not on here.
At the time, they could make their case for Cruz.
It bears pointing out that time has now passed.
You can either get behind Trump or leave our forum.
No one is forcing any one to stay here if they can’t back our party’s presumptive nominee.

This is an independent conservative forum.
We know full Trump is not the dream conservative candidate from Central Casting we all wanted.
Even with that allowance in mind, he is far preferable to Hillary Clinton.

I’ve been here almost 18 years?! DAAAAAAAAYYYYUUUUUMMMM!!!
I'll be here until they pry my cold, dead fingers from my keyboard ....
(Whew, that does have a bit of a gruesome ring to it! LOL)
Didn’t think about the capitalization, but Trump isn’t the kind of person to hide behind some pseudonym. He would just use his own name.
Thank you! Frankie was 2 in December and Joey will be 6 in August. Time passes far too quickly!
Tony Snow is one of my heroes. :)
Onyx is lovely. :)
At some point, when you systematically “oversimplify” someone’s positions or statements, to the point where it becomes a blatant misrepresentation, it becomes what’s known as a lie.
I think that you may be on to something.
That was a label that ended up sticking because of Ted Cruz's own behavior.
Vote Trump
Maybe we should have a reunion.
Hmmm, bad mouthing a Christian who can not respond.
A bit underhanded don’t you think?
With no ping.
He didn’t hate Catholics.
