Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is now the leading candidate to be tapped by Donald Trump as his running mate, a close confidante of Trump tells Newsmax...
Trump is said to favor Gingrich for several reasons.
First, Trump recognizes he is a Washington neophyte and sees in Gingrich someone who can school him in the legislative process and make nice with Capitol Hill...
Trump has other reasons he is leaning toward Gingrich. He is said to personally like him. Rubio, Newsmax reported, has already been eliminated though he lobbied through surrogates for the job. Rubio has denied doing so.

Not sure why that matters given the presidential nominee has admitted to affairs and been married three times. Trump is not exactly running a social conservative ticket. Of course many didn't like Newt because he has had a few liberal tendencies every now and then ... oh wait.
I saw this coming 100 miles away — check my posting history.
He would make a better Chief of Staff.
OK, so this is refreshing to type. DA-abbreviation-For-Minnesota, because that actually makes sense. Lol. Thank you.
Is Zell Miller still alive?
Regardless if your are Pro-Trump / Anti-Trump he is keeping his name and his goings on in the News for free with tidbits like this, regardless of the outcome. We heard last night, of the potentiality of Rudy Giuliani as Head of the Dept of Homeland Security, and IMHO that is for starters. With that said, what did Kim Jung Shrill say today? Ya get my point...
Trump has got between now and the convention too:
* Get his platform out and digested by us and more importantly the financial world.
* Pick a VP, but don't let it out until the convention.
* Get his entire Cabinet and Staff chosen, and here is my idea...
At the Convention bring them all out on Stage just before they close it out and introduce them all and the post they will fill. My guess it will be a dream team. My guesses? Rudy in Homeland, Ben Carson, VA or HHS also helping with an Obamacare replacement, John Bolton at State, Palin for Energy and I'd love to see it combined with EPA and BOLM, and that is for starters.
I'd love to see him bring them out with that song heard at Pro Sports games: "Are you ready for this!" and do it in a real showman's fashion.
FWIW, I spoke with a reasonable liberal today an MD. Trump was too much of a risk for them, but when I mentioned the concept of a dream team, the verbal cues went to a crack in the door if you will, moving towards actual consideration.
I really think a "Dream Team" Cabinet would bring a ton more aboard.
Team Trump are your Lurking? Run with this idea!
Newton for Chief of Staff - Jeff Sessions, Tom Cotton, Jim Inhofe, Susan Martinez or, Tim Scott for VP.
GO TRUMP!
GO NEWT!
> Trump needs a young, energetic heir apparent who can run in the future and make sure the changes stick.
Nah, he needs to make changes that accomplish his goals - then they’ll stick.
Haven’t you ever seen a trial balloon? I personally think it’s just a vanity balloon to boost Gingrich’s gravitas.
Age 72 is Perfect for Gingrich.
Trump has 2 sons and a daughter who can also be President.
Perfect!!!
Would not mind Gingrich in some advisory capacity, but not as VP.
Trump needs to consider doing what GWB didn’t — groom a VP for a 2024 run.
Giuliani no. If Pres and VP are from same state, they must sacrifice electoral votes of that state, according to the Constitution.
Trump selects Newt as VP.
They win.
Trump serves 2 or 3 years..enough to get his agenda well underway...then he resigns and goes back to his business empire.
Newt takes the big chair...and selects a younger man to be the heir apparent for 2020.
Trump gets to see his wall built, immigration enforced, trade deals fixed...etc
Newt gets what he always wanted... the presidency.. even if only for a short time.
We get a new VP, someone young, conservative and energetic.
It’s full of win!
I doubt it.
I’m going to say that Scott Walker has been very very quiet
He and trump at odds on some policies but a dull efficient bureaucrat with a spine would be an asset assuming trump has Gingrich as cos to navigate Congress
I've seen it but would rather see Christie as AG with Newt as CoS and Rudy in charge of Homeland Security.
Trump will not resign
He never ever quits
72 is the new 68.
