Former Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz returned to his job in the U.S. Senate on Tuesday with a warning to Washington that the turbulent primary race was a wake-up call.
"All across this country people are hungry for change. This election cycle should be a wake-up call to Washington, D.C.," the senator from Texas said outside his office. "The frustration and volcanic anger with Washington was echoed throughout this election."
Presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump and Democratic U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders have upended expectations in their respective presidential campaigns, tapping into voter anger at establishment politicians in Washington. Cruz, a favorite of the conservative Tea Party movement, also tried to position himself as an outsider.
However, he dropped out of the Republican race a week ago after a crushing loss in Indiana and a brutal campaign in which Trump attacked Cruz's wife and father and constantly derided the senator as "Lyin' Ted."
Cruz ruled out a third-party candidacy, and said the democratic process had run its course............
Cruz may be hoping to put his conservative imprint on the party's July 18-21 national convention in Cleveland.
On Monday, he said he would not release delegates he had won in Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas, according to news reports.

The South voted NO! to evangelical Cruz. They saw straight through him and many of those voters and other evangelicals post on FR.
“Hold the Bible high, put it down, and then he lies.”
Angry Texas voters may just send him packing next time.
I’m sorry, I didn’t see it in the article, did Cruz introduce a series of bills that matched his campaign goals, or not?
” ... a brutal campaign in which Trump attacked Cruz’s wife and father and constantly derided the senator as “Lyin’ Ted.”
Good old Rooters, still carrying water for Uniparty.
No, he did not introduce a series of bills because that requires work effort. More importantly, it would put him on record for his purported beliefs. If he did that he would not get the millions$$ he needs from certain donors.
Instead he and Heidi have built a giant volcano, very tall, reaching high into the heavens.
His devotees have lined up to.....
(I’ll let you finish it.)
I see that the Trump supporter pleasantness continues unabated.
Both -Cruz’s wife and father.
Neither are what they appear to be on the surface.
What was your name before you were zotted the last time?
Why would you even suggest zotting me?
Name one reason.
Angry Texas voters may just send him packing next time.

Interesting possibility but reality is that Cruz may not be a candidate next time. His work
history shows him to move from job/position frequently. I know people on the move up
change jobs often and Cruz fits that mold.
Trump has a lot of enemies and it is possible not all of them may depend on only elections to stop him from assuming the Presidency.
We know Trump isn't a Christian either. Trump doesn't seem to understand the most basic principle of Christianity. That core being REPENTANCE. If a person thinks they don't need to ask for forgiveness, then it shows that their heart has not been changed.
As far as Cruz goes, I don't know for sure where his heart is, but he apologized to Carson, even though I don't think he had anything to apologize about (Carson's book tour was NOT a campaign). At least Cruz seems to understand the basics of Christianity.
As far as Cruz and conservatism. I'm not sure how anyone could interpret his record any other way. Unless Trump is the new standard of conservatism, which it seems he is these days. Trump is not my definition of conservatism. Is he conservative on some things? Yes, but certainly not the standard bearer. I don't know that any person in office is right now. My hope is not in Trump or Cruz.
There are Christians, and then there are fake Christians and goofy sects.
Cruz and his Castro loving papa belong to a goofy sect which claimed that Cruz was ordained to be president.
...after Cruz's campaign attacked Donald's wife.
and constantly derided the senator as "Lyin' Ted."
...after Lyin' Ted lied his brains out about Trump. I would have voted for him until I heard those lies.
The vast majority of people now fully understand this. You'd have to be some kind of certified moron or party over principle fraud to continue this Cruz charade.
You need to calm down. What Cruz says is accurate and is one of the primary reasons Donald Trump is where is he is today.
People are fed up with the status quo.
The South voted NO! to evangelical Cruz.
Well at least, more did (a lot more in some cases) vote for Trump.
That’s why I’m not sure why we have some posters here that have to seemingly take swipes at religious groups when they post about Cruz.
The above poster that I first posted to, may have not intended that...
But there sure have been “some” posts by “some” Trump supporters that have been critical of evangelicals or religious groups supportive of Cruz.
If you’ve read a lot of posts here, you’ve seen evangelicals in Iowa made fun of...Mormons criticized for supporting Cruz.
I know there are many different religious groups (denominations) here from Catholics, evangelicals, Pentecostals, and probably Mormons.
And I would assume most of those people are “social conservatives”.
And I would hope that most would have the same beliefs as our FR founder.
But some of the posts make me believe 1 of 2 possible things...
1. People are so mad at Cruz that they are lashing out at him in a way that makes it seem they are taking veiled shots at religious groups...
Or 2. They are not social conservatives at all and they are wanting to leave behind the socially conservative positions.
I hope #2 is not the case.
Just STFU Cruz. Your ‘outsider’ shtick is getting tiresome.
The same South were exit polls asked people about their religious affiliation? The same polls where many said that they were "evangelical", but rarely attend church. Do you mean that South? How can a person be evangelical and not attend church weekly? That behavior is more like old school denominations where people show up for Easter and Christmas.
