Fault lines: GOP civil war deepens
CNN ^ | May 8, 2016 | Steven Sloan and Rachel Smolkin,

Donald Trump is poised to breeze through another round of primary contests this week -- while the Republican Party splinters around him.

Trump's ascent to the top of the GOP, which was capped last week with Ted Cruz's devastating loss in the Indiana primary, happened so fast that even the billionaire himself was surprised. And the whipsawed party establishment now faces immediate choices -- none of which particularly appeal to them.

Will they unite behind their party's standard-bearer? Will they sit out the 2016 campaign? Or will they fight on, in a quixotic quest to undermine Trump?

Trump's opponents are still sorting through the wreckage of the GOP primary season for a path forward. But it has become painfully clear over the past five days that party unification will be tough to come by, if it happens at all. Past presidents, party leaders and prominent Republicans are all choosing sides, from unenthusiastic acceptance (Bob Dole) to pledges not to vote for either party in November (former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and Sen. Lindsey Graham) to musings about a third-party bid (Bill Kristol).

>>The never Trumpers and hysterical Cruzies plan to continue their vote suppression campaign for the Butcher of Benghazi until the convention. How principled and conservative of them.

They do “out” themselves rather well, yes?

The Never Trumpers must look at the consequences. By refusing to vote for Trump, they will insure that the Democrats win the Whitehouse (Notice I did not say Hillary). If the Democrats keep the White House, such forums as the Free Republic will be history. They will make sure the dialog is controlled on the internet. All our freedoms will go too; starting with our firearms. A Trump style rally will be denied as they did to Trump in Seattle. America will be on the fast track to Communism where private property will be a taken by government or destroyed by thugs. The middle class will be no more. The list goes on . . .

Unification? How about they go apply at Trump Tower for a job?! Because they are about to lose them.

“.....do they want to be responsible for a President Hillary Clinton?”...

I suspect the fools would choose Clinton over Trump only to save their happy positions of control. The unfortunate part for them is they will be voted out of office the first chance the rest of the voting public gets the opportunity to dump them. They will lose their happy positions one way or the other. The smart ones will get behind Trump and support him.

Despite the Cruz/Trump rifts, the Republican people are far more unified than the Party which has shot itself in the head.

A “Civil War” suggests two at least roughly equal sides. There is no “Republican Civil War” except in the keyboards of the Democrats’ media breathless for something to derail Trump.
A few quislings willing to pick Party over country is not a “civil war” but a gnat that has to swatted.

The gope would be cool with President Clinton. They all work for the same people.

They should just keep quiet and vote for the guy, he needs to succeed or fail on his own.

I don’t want trumpets coming back later saying he was stabbed in the back.

I also don’t want him to fail because he was denied competent and experienced assistance. If he doesn’t want it fine, but he should be able to reach out for whatever he needs.

His pick of a presidential transition manager son in law disturbs me, either no one wants to help or Trump doesn’t realize how critical this is for his first 100 days. I really hope it isn’t that the experienced insiders aren’t willing to help and outsider.
