We recently pointed out that Germany's Alternative for Germany (AfD) party was gaining significant popularity as the anti-immigrant and anti-Muslim tide continued to rise in Germany. We then noted that everyone in the establishment will be shocked when the AfD's polling numbers started to climb higher.
We expect much more such back and forth between the "left" and the "right", which just like in the US, will ultimately benefit the object the media has decided to target for ridicule, until - just like in Austria - Germany's establishment is shocked when the AfD's polling skyrockets in the coming months and leads to drastic changes in Germany's political landscape.

Anytime you can get 6 out of 10 people to agree on something you have a groundswell of epic proportions. But the way Germany is governed means that everything is a compromise. The biggest party, the CDU, carries only 30% of the public vote. It takes 50% to form a government. That means that even if the AFD gets into the 30% range, it will form a compromise government with another party that is pro-immigrant. Some of those 6/10 voters are in other parties and it is unlikely they will vote for AFD candidates. It would be like a Democrat forsaking Bernie or Hillary to vote for Trump. Some may but most won’t.
Is AfD Europe’s version of the Trump movement here?

The CSU is feeling pressure on the immigration issue. Even if the CDU sticks with the SPD and holds the Merkel line, the CSU might be turned to the right.

Seems like cutting off all or most of their welfare benefits would be a good place to start. Heck, that might even be the only thing necessary.
