For the second time in his career, Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore faces charges before the Alabama Court of the Judiciary and potential removal from office.
Until that court hears and rules on those charges, Moore will be suspended with pay from his position atop the state's highest court.
On Friday, the Alabama Judicial Inquiry Commission forwarded charges to the commission, accusing the chief justice of violating judicial ethics in his opposition to same-sex marriage.

I really do understand his passion and goals but this was not the way to go about this.
The irony is that Rule of Law makes it very clear what steps to take next to oppose gay marriage. Steps the no-one is taking! I see no novel legal challenge to Obergefell starting up. I see no federal marriage amendment brewing. I see none of the legal remedies being pursued while people are very angry about this!

When you say lower courts SHOULD ignore it that simply isn’t how the Rule of Law works. Lower courts are bound by the rulings of higher courts without exception. If you don’t like the outcome you change the underlying legislation. Or you mount a campaign for a constitutional amendment. Or you mount a novel legal challenge. Or you remove it from the courts jurisdiction in some fashion. You don’t simply ignore it. A Supreme Court ruling isn’t the end of the legal road.
As for your question about murder I’ll take a shortcut and assume you are pro-life (even though there are a lot of libertarians on FR.) If you are pro-life you likely assume that Roe v. Wade legalized murder across the board in the first trimester of pregnancy. And ALL lower courts have accepted this ruling as binding until it is reversed or revised. That’s the proper order of law being followed.
If you don’t like that outcome the options to you are made clear by the Rule of Law. Simply ignoring the court ruling isn’t one of them.
We are finding out who the real conservatives are aren’t we? Those Southern Republicans who were supposed to stand up for family values—where did they go? They were fair weather conservatives many of whom were Rockefeller plants.
